Assistant Surgical Scheduler
Location: Fair Lawn, NJ
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Pay: $24-$26/hour (based on experience)

About the Opportunity
A growing orthopedic healthcare organization is seeking an Assistant Surgical Scheduler to coordinate commercial orthopedic surgical procedures, insurance authorizations, patient communication, and pre-operative requirements. The ideal candidate has experience in surgical scheduling, healthcare coordination, or insurance authorization and is highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Responsibilities

  • Schedule commercial orthopedic surgical procedures at ambulatory surgery centers, hospitals, and outside surgical facilities

  • Coordinate surgery dates with patients, surgeons, physician assistants, hospitals, and surgery centers

  • Obtain and track commercial insurance authorizations and precertifications

  • Follow up with insurance carriers regarding pending approvals, missing information, and outstanding requirements

  • Monitor authorization timelines to help prevent delays or cancellations

  • Track pre-operative requirements including medical clearances, imaging, labs, EKGs, testing, and facility documentation

  • Communicate with patients regarding surgery dates, locations, preparation instructions, and next steps

  • Submit required documentation and paperwork to facilities within required timelines

  • Maintain accurate scheduling, authorization, and patient records within EMR and scheduling systems

  • Identify and escalate scheduling, authorization, or documentation issues proactively
Qualifications

  • Prior experience in surgical scheduling, surgery coordination, medical office administration, or healthcare operations required

  • Experience with insurance authorization, precertification, or referral coordination preferred

  • Orthopedic, spine, pain management, ambulatory surgery center, or specialty practice experience preferred

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical workflows
