Assistant Surgical Scheduler
Location: Fair Lawn, NJ
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Pay: $24-$26/hour (based on experience)

About the Opportunity
A growing orthopedic healthcare organization is seeking an
Assistant Surgical Scheduler to coordinate commercial orthopedic surgical procedures, insurance authorizations, patient communication, and pre-operative requirements. The ideal candidate has experience in surgical scheduling, healthcare coordination, or insurance authorization and is highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Schedule commercial orthopedic surgical procedures at ambulatory surgery centers, hospitals, and outside surgical facilities
Coordinate surgery dates with patients, surgeons, physician assistants, hospitals, and surgery centers
Obtain and track commercial insurance authorizations and precertifications
Follow up with insurance carriers regarding pending approvals, missing information, and outstanding requirements
Monitor authorization timelines to help prevent delays or cancellations
Track pre-operative requirements including medical clearances, imaging, labs, EKGs, testing, and facility documentation
Communicate with patients regarding surgery dates, locations, preparation instructions, and next steps
Submit required documentation and paperwork to facilities within required timelines
Maintain accurate scheduling, authorization, and patient records within EMR and scheduling systems
Identify and escalate scheduling, authorization, or documentation issues proactively
Qualifications
Prior experience in surgical scheduling, surgery coordination, medical office administration, or healthcare operations required
Experience with insurance authorization, precertification, or referral coordination preferred
Orthopedic, spine, pain management, ambulatory surgery center, or specialty practice experience preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical workflows
