Job Title: Assistant Superintendent
Job Description
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Field Operations Manager in overseeing day-to-day field activities across multiple commercial construction projects. This role ensures that waterproofing and building envelope systems are installed correctly, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules, safety requirements, and quality standards. The position offers a clear path for advancement into Superintendent and Project Management roles for a driven and detail-oriented construction professional.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing daily field operations across multiple commercial construction job sites.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and details to guide field work.
- Coordinate closely with General Contractors, superintendents, and project teams to maintain alignment on scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Support crew scheduling and manpower allocation across projects to ensure adequate staffing and productivity.
- Monitor job progress regularly and adjust crews, priorities, and resources to meet deadlines and project milestones.
- Ensure proper installation of waterproofing systems, building envelope components, and related details in accordance with plans and standards.
- Identify and communicate scope gaps, field conflicts, or inefficiencies to the appropriate stakeholders and help develop solutions.
- Train and develop field staff on installation techniques, sequencing, and field leadership best practices.
- Enforce safety standards and OSHA requirements on-site, promoting a safe work environment for all field personnel.
- Implement and uphold quality control procedures to ensure work meets project specifications and company standards.
- Assist in tracking productivity, materials usage, and overall job performance to support project reporting and continuous improvement.
- Maintain clear, consistent communication between field crews and office-based project personnel.
- Demonstrate leadership presence in the field by setting expectations, providing guidance, and supporting a positive team culture.
Essential Skills
- OSHA 30 certification is required.
- 3-8 years of commercial construction experience, preferably in a field leadership or coordination role.
- Proven ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and details.
- Experience supervising or coordinating field crews on construction projects.
- Strong work ethic and reliable follow-through on commitments and responsibilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with General Contractors, superintendents, and field crews.
- High level of organization with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple jobs simultaneously.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and confident presence in the field.
- Ability to think critically, distinguish true priorities from distractions, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on getting work done safely, on time, and to a high standard.
- Comfort using computers and performing job-related administrative or reporting tasks in an office setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Field Engineer, or in a similar construction role.
- Exposure to waterproofing, building envelope systems, concrete, masonry, or exterior wall systems.
- Hands-on experience with outside building envelopes and waterproofing is highly valued but not strictly required.
- Willingness to learn and master waterproofing systems, sequencing, and related installation techniques.
- Experience working directly with General Contractors on commercial construction projects.
- Interest in professional growth with the goal of progressing into Superintendent and Project Management positions.
Work Environment
The role is primarily field-based, with approximately 80% of the time spent on active construction sites and 20% in the office performing computer-based and administrative tasks. New hires will begin with about six months of training in the Montgomery area to learn company processes, systems, and field standards before relocating as needed to support other projects. The position is salaried and not eligible for overtime. The work environment involves close collaboration with field crews, General Contractors, and project teams in a fast-paced, schedule-driven setting that emphasizes safety, quality, and professional development.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $43.25/hr.
