    Position Summary The Assistant Superintendent serves as a key member of the Superintendent's executive leadership team and provides strategic leadership, oversight, and accountability for district academic and operational functions. This position directly supervises the central office administrative team and works collaboratively with district administrators, principals, staff, students, families, and community stakeholders to advance the school system's mission and strategic goals. The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in leading the implementation of district initiatives, ensuring operational excellence, promoting student achievement, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across all schools and departments.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Executive Leadership and Administration

    • Serve as an advisor to the Superintendent on county operations, instructional services, and organizational effectiveness.
    • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the district's strategic plan.
    • Represent the Superintendent at meetings, events, and functions as assigned.
    • Assume executive leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Superintendent.
    • Coordinate district-wide initiatives and ensure alignment with the district's mission, vision, goals, and Board of Education priorities.
    • Lead cross-functional collaboration among departments to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability.
    • Academic Leadership Oversight
    • Monitor implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment, school improvement, professional learning, and student support services.
    • Support the development and execution of academic programs designed to improve student achievement and educational outcomes.
    • Review academic performance data and collaborate on continuous improvement efforts across all schools.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local educational requirements related to instructional programs.
    • Operations Leadership Oversight
    • Oversee the effectiveness of operational functions, including transportation, facilities, maintenance, nutrition services, technology, safety, security, and other support services.
    • Ensure operational departments provide high-quality, efficient, and safe services to students and staff.
    • Support long-range planning related to facilities, operations, capital improvements, and resource management.
    • Monitor operational performance metrics and implement improvement strategies where needed.

    Personnel and Organizational Leadership

    • Assist in recruiting, developing, supervising, and retaining high-quality administrators and staff.
    • Foster leadership development and succession planning throughout the organization.
    • Conduct evaluations and provide performance feedback to assigned executive-level staff.
    • Promote a positive organizational culture focused on collaboration, accountability, innovation, and student success.
    • Support labor relations and personnel matters consistent with district policies and procedures.
    • Budget and Resource Management
    • Assist in the development and monitoring of district budgets.
    • Ensure effective stewardship of district resources.
    • Collaborate with district leaders to align financial resources with strategic priorities.
    • Review departmental budget requests and recommend resource allocations.
    • Governance and Community Relations
    • Assist in preparing reports, recommendations, and presentations for the Board of Education.
    • Attend Board meetings and provide information as requested.
    • Foster positive relationships with community organizations, governmental agencies, higher education institutions, and business partners.
    • Respond to stakeholder concerns and facilitate problem-solving efforts.
    • Support communication initiatives that strengthen public trust and engagement.

    Compliance and Accountability

    • Ensure district compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Monitor district performance indicators and accountability requirements.
    • Support emergency preparedness planning and crisis response efforts.
    • Ensure policies and practices are implemented consistently across the district.
    • Serve as the Federal Title IX Coordinator for the district.

    Other Duties

    • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
    • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives designed to advance district priorities.

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree in education or related field required.
    • Valid West Virginia certification/licensure as a Superintendent or Superintendent Endorsement required.
    • Administrative certification as required by W.Va. state law.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of successful administrative experience at the school or district level.
    • Demonstrated experience supervising administrators and leading complex organizational initiatives.
    • Experience in strategic planning, personnel management, and organizational leadership.
    • Knowledge of instructional programs and school operations.
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Knowledge of educational leadership practices, curriculum, instruction, and district operations.
    • Ability to analyze data and use evidence-based decision-making.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Experience managing budgets and organizational resources.
    • Ability to lead change initiatives and improve organizational performance.
