    Job Summary

    The Assistant Store Manager partners with the Store Manager to plan, direct, and coordinate the daily operations of their assigned HOT Goodwill retail store. This role helps team members understand performance goals and coaches them to achieve those goals, fostering an environment where people can contribute meaningfully to the community served by HOT Goodwill's mission. In the Store Manager's absence, the Assistant Store Manager assumes full responsibility for all store operations and serves as the primary leader on site.

    Store Level Assignment

    Assistant Store Manager levels (ASM I-V) are determined by the volume, staffing, and operational complexity of the assigned store. All Assistant Store Managers are expected to perform the full scope of responsibilities outlined in this job description.

    The assigned level reflects the scale and complexity of the store environment and aligns with established pay bands within the HRIS system. It does not represent differences in core job duties or decision-making authority.

    Key Responsibilities

    The following duties are representative of the essential functions of this position. Additional duties may be assigned as operational needs require.

    Store Operations & Merchandising

    • Maintains adequate volume of merchandise on the sales floor; ensures production and rotation volume is sufficient to meet or exceed revenue goals.
    • Manages workflow and facility layout to ensure appropriate stock levels and efficient operations.
    • Maintains store presentation standards including organization, merchandising, cleanliness, stock rotations, proper inventory levels, and signage.
    • Operates the facility within budgeted expense levels; monitors and controls expenses relative to revenue.
    • Safeguards company equipment and property, including donated goods. Reports any incident of damage, misuse, theft, fraud, waste, or unauthorized possession of company property.

    Team Leadership & Workforce Management

    • Partners with the Store Manager to maintain staffing at correct and budgeted levels; schedules appropriately to meet business needs and maximize operational efficiency.
    • Supports the Store Manager in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training employees.
    • Consistently evaluates employee performance and promptly addresses performance issues; provides feedback to support performance review processes.
    • Ensures the highest level of professionalism in the leadership of store personnel, modeling HOT Goodwill's values in all interactions.
    • Works various shifts, including weekends, as assigned.

    Customer & Donor Experience

    • Ensures excellent customer service is provided to all shoppers and donors, consistent with HOT Goodwill's mission and values.
    • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from employees, program participants, customers, and the public using tact, courtesy, and cooperativeness.
    • Communicates effectively and appropriately with all levels of store leadership.

    Compliance & Reporting

    • Maintains proper cash controls in accordance with company policies and procedures.
    • Oversees and maintains neat, accurate, and timely completion of all assigned reports and records.
    • Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the needs of the store and HOT Goodwill's organizational goals.

    Education and/or Experience

    Minimum Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Experience in retail, including supervisory or team lead responsibilities.
    • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist in managing daily store operations, including inventory, merchandising, and staffing.
    • Experience coaching and supporting team members to achieve performance goals.
    • Familiarity with loss prevention, safety procedures, and adherence to company policies.
    • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills, including the ability to handle escalated customer or operational issues.
    • Ability to support administrative tasks, scheduling, and achievement of store performance objectives.
