Description

About the Company

We're a locally owned grocery retailer committed to serving our community and creating a great experience for both our customers and employees. We believe strong leaders make all the difference, and we're looking for someone with a strong background in fresh foods, particularly produce, who is ready to grow into a future Store Manager role.

The Role

The Assistant Store Manager is a leadership development position designed for someone who wants to build a long-term career in grocery retail management.

We're especially interested in candidates who have experience working in or leading a produce department and understand the importance of product quality, inventory management, merchandising, and delivering a great customer experience.

You'll work alongside the Store Manager to learn every aspect of operating a successful grocery store while helping lead the team, improve efficiencies, and bring fresh ideas to the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Produce Manager, Department Manager, or grocery retail leader who is ready to take the next step.

What You'll Do

  • Learn all aspects of daily grocery store operations
  • Use your produce and fresh foods experience to help maintain product quality, presentation, and freshness
  • Support inventory management, ordering, merchandising, and reducing product shrink
  • Lead and support employees across all store departments
  • Assist with scheduling, staffing, and daily operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve store processes and operational efficiencies
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and resolve customer concerns
  • Monitor key performance metrics and support store goals
  • Prepare to confidently lead the store in the Store Manager's absence

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • Experience in grocery retail, preferably in produce or fresh foods
  • Previous department leadership or management experience preferred
  • Understanding of produce quality, inventory, merchandising, and shrink management
  • Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills and leadership potential
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Positive, dependable, and customer-focused
  • Hungry, humble, and smart
  • Coachable and open to feedback
  • Hands-on and willing to jump in wherever needed
  • Confident enough to lead while continuing to learn
  • Excited to challenge the mindset of "that's how we've always done it"

Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time (approximately 45 hours per week)
  • Five-day workweek, including weekends and one evening shift
  • Salary range of $55,000–$65,000, depending on experience
  • Clear path to Store Manager, with future earning potential of approximately $80,000 annually plus bonus opportunities

Why This Role

If you've built your career in produce or grocery retail and are ready for more responsibility, this could be your next step.

You'll have the opportunity to take what you already know about fresh foods, customer service, and department operations and expand those skills into managing an entire grocery store.

We're looking for someone who wants to grow, lead a team, bring new ideas to the table, and build a long-term career with our organization.
