Position Overview
Our client is seeking an Assistant Site Safety & Health Specialist to support the site project management team in delivering comprehensive Safety & Health programs at a heavy construction project in Hallam, Nebraska.
This position will assist with the implementation of safety policies and procedures, OSHA compliance, hazard identification, incident investigations, safety documentation, and field safety inspections. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction safety practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with project management, subcontractors, and field personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the site project management team with implementing and maintaining Safety & Health programs at the project site.
- Provide Safety & Health program support on field construction projects to help ensure work is planned and performed safely and in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist with the execution of project Safety & Health program requirements and deliverables.
- Help maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards.
- Assist with work stoppage situations when conditions may present an immediate danger to life or health.
- Identify and help resolve safety and health concerns while documenting relevant details and personnel involved.
- Work collaboratively with corporate and project Safety & Health teams to verify that safety programs are being properly implemented and required compliance documentation is maintained.
- Assist work teams with pre-planning safety activities and hazard assessments.
- Identify and document unique or emerging Safety & Health issues during project execution and assist with implementing appropriate corrective actions.
- Participate in project safety and health walk-throughs with subcontractor safety personnel.
- Distribute and communicate safety information, procedures, and educational materials.
- Assist with safety communications designed to increase awareness and reinforce project Safety & Health goals.
- Assist with investigations and reporting related to near misses, property damage, environmental incidents, and accidents.
- Maintain project Safety & Health records and reporting documentation in an audit-ready condition.
- Assist with the preparation, maintenance, and submission of required Safety & Health documentation.
- Travel or drive to various project site locations as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
OR
- Associate degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and at least 2 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management.
OR
- High school diploma/GED and at least 4 years of experience in construction safety, general industry safety, or construction management.
Additional Requirements
- Basic knowledge of OSHA Construction and General Industry regulations.
- Familiarity with applicable ANSI, NIOSH, Army Corps of Engineers (CoE) Engineer Manual 385-1, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project management, subcontractors, and field personnel.
- Willingness to work varying schedules based on project requirements.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must meet company requirements for vehicle driving privileges in accordance with applicable Motor Vehicle Safety policies.
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Safety Training required; OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach Safety Training is preferred or may be required based on project requirements.
