Assistant Right of Way Specialist
Location: Newton, MA
Employment Type: Long-Term Contract
Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Right of Way Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity based out of Newton, Massachusetts. This position will support right of way, real estate, land management, and easement-related activities associated with transmission infrastructure and property interests.
The ideal candidate will have experience with right of way agreements, easements, encroachments, real estate documentation, title research, and stakeholder database management. This role requires excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate right of way easement agreements on behalf of the client.
- Negotiate the removal of encroachments or establish license agreements for encroachments located on transmission easements or fee-owned right of way.
- Conduct desktop reviews and field verification of potential encroachments.
- Analyze, prepare, review, and interpret land and right of way-related agreements, deeds, easements, leases, permits, and licenses.
- Complete rights and restrictions reviews.
- Research and review real property-related documents.
- Understand and interpret easement agreements and associated property rights.
- Support the translation of data from right of way documents into stakeholder management databases.
- Complete document research as needed.
- Manage and prioritize multiple assignments and workload demands.
- Support client needs and special projects as directed.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Travel approximately 50% of the time to support field and project-related activities.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or
- Associate Degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to read and understand title reports, appraisal reports, and land surveys.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general real estate law.
- Demonstrated understanding of real estate title work.
- Experience with right of way, easements, property rights, land acquisition, or related real estate activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Experience with database system management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must meet the standards to qualify for and maintain company vehicle driving privileges in accordance with applicable motor vehicle safety policies.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time; travel expenses are eligible for reimbursement in accordance with applicable policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior Right of Way Professional (SR/WA) designation.
- Other certification from the International Right of Way Association (IRWA).
- Real Estate Broker's License.
- Real Estate Sales License.
