What You Will Do:
GFT is seeking an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer - Roadway to join our Construction Services team in New York. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity to lead roadway-related transportation projects, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in the field.

What you'll be challenged to do:
As an Assistant Resident Engineer, you'll support the oversight of complex infrastructure construction projects that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life. You'll assist with coordinating inspection teams, working with contractors, and helping ensure compliance with standards and contract documents. Your work will contribute to the successful delivery of roads, bridges, and transit systems that support emergency access and economic growth.
You'll assist with project documentation, schedule monitoring, testing coordination, and stakeholder communication while supporting RFIs, pay estimates, and closeout activities to help keep projects moving forward.

What you will bring to our firm:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
Professional Engineer (PE) license (New York preferred) or one of the following
NICET Level IV certification
Meets ASCE Grade V
Minimum of 8 years of relevant construction inspection and management including oversight of roadway/highway/bridge infrastructure projects
Prior experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, or Metro-North Railroad projects
OSHA 30-hour certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
Working knowledge of Project Management Procedures (PMPs) and Project Management Guidelines (PMGs) preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with contractors, owners, subconsultants, designers, and architects
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering plans, specifications, and construction schedules
Physically able to work in the field, including navigating uneven terrain, climbing ladders, working at heights, and performing duties in various outdoor weather conditions;
Availability for occasional night and weekend work
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to various sites
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $140,000 per year. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
