The Port of Dover is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Procurement and PMO Department, working closely with project teams across a diverse portfolio of construction and infrastructure projects.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their commercial expertise across a full range of construction disciplines, including both land-based and marine projects. You'll gain exposure to the complete project lifecycle, from procurement and tendering through to final accounts, while contributing to the ongoing success and development of one of Europe's most important transport and logistics hubs.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support Project Managers and senior commercial staff in delivering effective cost management and commercial control across a variety of projects and maintenance works.
Key responsibilities include:
* Assisting with the preparation and administration of tender documentation, bills of quantities and contract conditions.
* Supporting the measurement and valuation of construction works.
* Preparing cost estimates and analysing project specifications and requirements.
* Assisting with tender and quotation evaluations to ensure compliance with procurement regulations and project requirements.
* Supporting the assessment and negotiation of variations, claims and additional works.
* Monitoring project budgets and helping to produce accurate cost forecasts.
* Conducting site visits to verify progress, measurements and project information.
* Assisting with the preparation of cost reports, payment assessments and final accounts.
* Supporting contract administration activities and maintaining accurate commercial records.
* Identifying cost-saving opportunities and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
* Keeping up to date with industry developments, legislation and commercial best practices.

About You
We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, commercially aware and keen to build a successful career in quantity surveying.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
* Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or within a similar commercial role in a construction, civil engineering or infrastructure environment.
* Understanding of quantity surveying principles, cost control and measurement techniques.
* Strong analytical and numerical abilities.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant commercial software systems.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
Desirable
* Knowledge of NEC contracts.
* Experience working in a client-side or consultancy environment.
* Familiarity with CDM Regulations and public/utilities procurement requirements.
* Experience using systems such as BCIS, Asite or similar platforms.
