If so, we're looking for our next Assistant Quality Control Inspector to join the High Plains Steel Services team.

As an Assistant Quality Control Inspector, your primary responsibility will be fitting and welding structural and miscellaneous steel assemblies. You'll also serve as an Assistant Quality Control Inspector as needed, supporting the QCI by performing assigned inspections, documenting results, identifying nonconforming work, and helping ensure our finished product meets company, project, and industry requirements.

What You'll Be Doing as Our Assistant Quality Control Inspector

Your primary role is Fitter/Welder, with Assistant QCI responsibilities performed as needed.

• Fitting & Welding - Interpret blueprints, fit and align steel components, and perform GMAW and FCAW welding to specifications.
• Fabrication Quality - Produce structural and miscellaneous steel assemblies that meet applicable AWS, AISC, project, and company requirements.
• Assigned Quality Inspections - When assigned Assistant QCI duties, perform and document fit-up and final inspections of fabricated parts and assemblies.
• Requirement Verification - Use applicable drawings, project requirements, company procedures, inspection criteria, and AISC/AWS codes and practices when performing assigned inspections.
• Nonconformance Reporting - Identify, document, and report work that does not meet applicable requirements through the Company's Quality and Safety Management System (QSMS).
• Quality Documentation - Assist with inspection records, quality logs, equipment certifications, and other documentation needed to maintain traceable quality records.
• Production & Quality Coordination - Communicate inspection findings clearly and work with production to correct deficiencies without lowering the required quality standard.
• Safety & Equipment Inspections - Conduct required pre-shift checks, reinforce safe work practices, and follow company safety requirements.
• Team Collaboration - Work closely with Foremen, the QCI, and other production employees to keep quality work moving safely and efficiently.
• Primary Role Support - When you are not assigned Assistant QCI responsibilities, you will return to and perform your regular Fitter/Welder responsibilities.

Qualifications

In order to succeed in this role, you need:

• At least 2 years of steel fabrication experience.
• Experience fitting and welding structural and miscellaneous steel.
• Proficiency in GMAW and FCAW welding techniques.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding requirements and AISC steel fabrication standards.
• Ability to pass a 3G Welding Certification.
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, specifications, and fabrication requirements.
• Operational knowledge of AISC and AWS codes and practices used in steel fabrication.
• Ability to use company technology required for production, inspection, and quality documentation.
• Strong physical ability, including frequently lifting up to 60 lbs. and performing strenuous tasks.
• A team-first attitude and willingness to continue learning both fabrication and quality-control practices.
