Assistant Purchasing & Sales Order Management (SOM) Manager

AtWork Personnel is recruiting for an exciting direct hire opportunity with a well-established global manufacturing organization seeking an experienced Assistant Purchasing & Sales Order Management (SOM) Manager. This newly created leadership position serves as the right-hand partner to the Purchasing Manager and plays a critical role in overseeing purchasing operations, sales order management, supplier relationships, and team development. The company is also in the process of transitioning from a legacy ERP system to SAP, making prior SAP experience highly desirable. This position begins fully onsite during training, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule (2 days remote per week) after the initial onboarding period.
What You'll Do
Purchasing & Supply Chain Leadership
- Support daily purchasing operations and procurement activities.
- Review and prioritize purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
- Manage supplier relationships while negotiating pricing, quality, and delivery.
- Source alternative vendors when needed to minimize production disruptions.
- Monitor MRP and purchasing activities to ensure timely material availability.
- Support supplier performance reporting and diversity initiatives.
- Assist with cost reduction projects and continuous improvement efforts.
- Help oversee buyers, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance support.
- Participate in hiring, scheduling, time approvals, and employee development.
Sales Order Management
- Oversee sales order processing to ensure accuracy and on-time fulfillment.
- Monitor customer orders, shipments, backlog, and delivery performance.
- Respond to customer order inquiries and resolve issues.
- Maintain customer pricing within ERP systems.
- Prepare customer quotations and sales orders.
- Track and report on on-time delivery metrics.
- Coach and develop Sales Order Management team members.
- Coordinate with Sales, Quality, Logistics, IT, Engineering, and other departments.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree - Required
- 8+ years of purchasing, supply chain, procurement, or materials management experience
- 5+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Strong ERP system experience
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
- Experience managing supplier relationships and procurement processes
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred
- SAP experience (highly preferred)
- Semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing experience
- Experience with MRP systems
- Knowledge of supply chain compliance and internal controls
