Job Title: Assistant Project Manager - ConstructionJob Description

The Assistant Project Manager will support the successful delivery of commercial construction projects across a diverse portfolio that includes healthcare, multifamily, education, municipal, nonprofit, commercial, and adaptive reuse work in Connecticut and the surrounding region. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a construction professional to grow their project management career by working closely with experienced industry leaders from preconstruction planning through project closeout. The position is based in Waterbury, CT and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers with the planning, execution, and closeout of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through completion.
  • Prepare, track, and manage requests for information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate subcontractor onboarding, contracts, and procurement activities to ensure timely and accurate delivery of services and materials.
  • Support project budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting to help maintain financial control and project profitability.
  • Monitor project schedules, assist in maintaining key milestones, and help identify and address potential delays.
  • Communicate regularly with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams to facilitate collaboration and resolve issues.
  • Review construction documents, specifications, and drawings for completeness and accuracy, and assist with permitting, inspections, and project closeout requirements.
  • Track material deliveries, coordinate project logistics, and help ensure that resources are available as needed on the jobsite.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records and documentation using construction management software, including Procore.
  • Support and promote jobsite safety initiatives and compliance efforts, reinforcing a culture of safety across all project activities.

Essential Skills

  • 1-5 years of construction industry experience in project engineering, project coordination, or assistant project management roles.
  • At least 2 years of experience coordinating commercial construction projects.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain detailed and accurate project documentation.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines across concurrent projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Hands-on experience with Procore construction management software for managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project records.
  • Experience preparing and managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders on commercial construction projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and related technical documents.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam for reviewing, marking up, and collaborating on construction drawings and documents.
  • Experience using MS Project or similar scheduling software to support project schedule development and maintenance.
  • Background in multifamily construction projects is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes, inspections, and project closeout procedures.
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety practices and regulatory compliance in commercial construction.

Work Environment

This role is based in Waterbury, CT and supports commercial construction projects throughout Connecticut and the surrounding region. The Assistant Project Manager works in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that includes both office-based tasks and regular interaction with field teams and jobsites. You will use modern construction management technologies such as Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, and Microsoft Office to coordinate documentation, schedules, and communications. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
