Assistant Project Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking an organized, proactive Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support delivery of construction projects across government/federal and commercial facilities. The APM will assist project managers and field personnel in planning, coordinating field operations, managing schedules and budgets, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires hands-on construction experience, strong communication skills, and the flexibility to travel to job sites as projects demand (up to 50%).

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project managers in developing and maintaining project schedules, budgets, and progress reports for government/federal and commercial projects.
  • Coordinate and communicate daily with field managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure work is progressing on schedule and to quality standards.
  • Assist with procurement, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and invoice review to maintain project financial control.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor construction and HVAC installation, ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes; prepare site visit reports.
  • Facilitate coordination between trades, commissioning teams, and facility owners for HVAC systems, specialized hangar requirements, and public sector standards.
  • Support permitting and documentation for federal and local regulatory requirements; maintain project records and closeout documentation.
  • Track and report project risks and issues, propose mitigation actions, and escalate to project managers as needed.
  • Participate in client meetings, walkthroughs, and project reviews; represent the company professionally with government and institutional clients.
  • Assist with onboarding and supervision of field personnel when acting as field manager delegate; ensure adherence to safety and quality procedures.
  • Coordinate travel logistics for site assignments and maintain responsiveness while on the road.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent construction experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in construction project support or assistant PM roles; demonstrated experience with government/federal or commercial, or hangar projects strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC projects, installations, commissioning, and systems coordination.
  • Proven field management experience or frequent coordination with field managers and site teams.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, scheduling (MS Project or Primavera a plus), budgeting, change management, and submittal/RFI workflows.
  • Familiarity with federal contracting requirements, K-12/college facility standards, and public-sector procurement or compliance expectations preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear reports and interface with clients and regulators.
  • Proficient with project management and collaboration tools (Procore, Prolog, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office suite).
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel up to 50% to project sites; ability to work in field conditions and occasionally lift/move materials if required.
  • OSHA 30 certification, safety training, and/or trade certifications preferred.
