Position Description:
The responsibility of the Assistant Project Manager is to provide administrative and functional support to the Project Manager to ensure assigned projects are completed in a timely and profitable manner. Additionally, manage small projects under the supervision of a Project Manager.
- Assist with the coordination of activities to ensure completion of project by contract deadline.
- Monitor the project budget to track performance against estimated cost.
- Monitor productivity and quality standards to establish if they are being achieved.
- Work with the field crew to ensure they are following VHV's safety policies and procedures.
- Establish rapport with customer, general contractor, co-workers and subcontractors.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Five plus years of experience in mechanical and/or HVAC industry involved with the execution of construction projects.
- Completion of Project Management related certifications highly beneficial.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Management
- Establish an understanding of project scope of work, blueprints, building codes, and specifications related to the project.
- Assist with the coordination, review and approval process of submittals.
- Review weekly labor analyses to understand the labor needs of the project.
- Assist with the discipline of employees when required using verbal or written methods.
- Monitor vendors and subcontractors to identify if they are meeting project requirements.
- Create goodwill with customers by listening to their concerns and doing whatever is necessary to meeting their needs or resolving their concerns.
- Assist in creating and maintaining a diversified work environment that is harassment free and complies with VHV's company policy and all State and Federal regulations.
Budget
- Participate in monthly reviews to accurately project estimates of overall job financials.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of progress billings on or prior to the required date.
- Assist the Project Manager to efficiently manage manpower to meet or exceed budget.
- Work with the PM and Foreman to identify when the project is exceeding budget and assist with formulating a strategy to rectify.
- Understand when scope of work is outside the base contract.
- Ensure that work performed or requested outside of the original scope is being documented and charged accordingly.
Administrative
- Assist with the coordination of material and equipment release, tracking and delivery.
- Attend job site and office meetings as related to assigned projects (i.e., turnover meeting, GC meetings, closeout meetings).
- Participate in employee evaluations.
- Work with Foreman to generate punch list at end of project and set dates on when items will be completed.
Quality
- Participate with creating a team environment to meet or exceed VHV's project schedule while maintaining a high level of quality.
Safety
- Work with VHV Safety Manager and Foreman to ensure client and GCs safety protocols are being adhered to and maintained.
- Participate in job site safety walkthroughs and report any items of concern to the appropriate party.
- Develop a good understanding of the correct use of all safety equipment.
- Wear and maintain the required safety equipment at all times.
- Create a team environment to meet or exceed VHV's safety program.
- Ensure the job site is maintained in a neat and orderly manner to avoid any possible safety hazards.
Competencies:
- Assist the PM to manage and resolve conflicts constructively and in a professional manner.
- Develop strong practical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in conformance with all company, customer, and government safety regulations.
- Basic ability to read and interpret technical specifications, architectural drawings and related construction documentation.
- Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of mechanical systems.
- Assist with planning and organizing of activities related to the construction or maintenance of structures, facilities and systems related to the project.
- Participate in the review of contracts and help prepare and negotiate revisions.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Predominately sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (67% - 100%) of the workday
- Ability and willingness to travel to local as well as remote locations (out of town, out of state) for short and/or extended periods of time
- Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
- Must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction)
- Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects
- Lift and carry supplies and materials weighing up to 25 lbs
- Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist
- Wear the proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, safety glasses, and gloves, if visiting a job site
