Job Description

The Assistant Project Manager will join a large-scale greenfield power generation project in Bowling Green, Ohio, supporting the construction of new infrastructure designed to provide power for data center operations. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience on a major EPC project involving aero-turbines, battery energy storage systems (BESS), civil and underground construction, mechanical systems, electrical infrastructure, and process piping.

You will work directly alongside experienced Project Managers, engineers, field leadership, and subcontractors while taking ownership of defined construction scopes. The position is designed for someone who already has foundational construction management experience and wants to accelerate their career toward becoming a Project Manager while gaining exposure to complex, high-value industrial and power projects.

Responsibilities

• Support the on-site execution of a major greenfield power generation project involving turbines, BESS, electrical, mechanical, civil, underground, and piping construction.
• Take ownership of defined project scopes while working closely with the Project Manager and field leadership.
• Coordinate and oversee subcontractors across electrical, mechanical, civil, and process piping disciplines.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents to identify constructability concerns and ensure work aligns with project requirements.
• Coordinate daily field activities and communicate priorities between subcontractors, project management, engineering, quality, and safety teams.
• Track project costs, labor, materials, production, and overall progress to help keep assigned scopes on schedule and within budget.
• Maintain and update project schedules while identifying potential delays and coordinating solutions with field teams.
• Support project controls, including cost tracking, labor tracking, budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, documentation, and reporting.
• Assist with estimating activities, quantity takeoffs, vendor pricing, and subcontractor quotes.
• Support QA/QC activities, inspections, testing procedures, and associated project documentation.
• Assist with RFIs, project documentation, reporting, meetings, records, and other administrative requirements associated with field construction.
• Promote a strong safety culture and reinforce safety, health, and environmental requirements throughout the project.
• Build relationships with subcontractors and field personnel while developing the leadership skills needed to manage increasingly larger scopes.
• Participate in a structured, hands-on training program with experienced project leadership.
• Progressively take on larger scopes and responsibilities as your knowledge of the project and organization grows.

Essential Skills

• 2+ years of construction project management experience, ideally as an Assistant Project Manager on larger projects or managing smaller construction scopes independently.
• Experience within heavy industrial, power generation, industrial plant, or other large-scale construction environments.
• Experience working for an EPC contractor, general contractor, or project owner.
• Experience coordinating or overseeing subcontractors within at least one major construction discipline.
• Electrical and mechanical construction experience is highly preferred, although civil and process piping backgrounds will also be considered.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, prints, specifications, and technical documents.
• Understanding of core project controls, including schedules, budgets, labor, costs, materials, and reporting.
• Experience with project management or construction management software; Primavera experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and related tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to communicate with Project Managers, subcontractors, field personnel, and internal teams.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving construction environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate field issues before they impact schedule or productivity.
• Ability to work independently while remaining highly collaborative with the overall project team.
• Leadership potential and a desire to grow into managing increasingly larger construction scopes.

Work Environment

This is a 100% field-based opportunity starting with a major greenfield power generation project in Bowling Green, Ohio. The project is part of a larger multi-year program supporting increased power demand from data center development and gives Assistant Project Managers exposure to a significant amount of construction within a condensed footprint and schedule.

The project includes aero-turbines and generators, BESS, significant electrical and mechanical construction, civil and underground infrastructure, process piping, and approximately 30 miles of pipeline work. With multiple disciplines operating simultaneously, this is an opportunity to develop a broad understanding of how a complex power project is constructed from the ground up.

You will work both from an on-site job trailer and directly within active construction areas. The field team includes Project Engineers, Construction Management, Quality, Safety, subcontractors, and other project personnel. Because the Project Manager is primarily based off site and visits periodically, the Assistant Project Manager has the opportunity to develop meaningful ownership and responsibility for day-to-day field execution rather than simply providing administrative support.

Most projects operate on a 6x10 schedule, six days per week at approximately 10 hours per day, with additional overtime or weekend work as project milestones require. Candidates should be comfortable traveling to projects for extended periods and being away from home for several weeks at a time. Trips home are typically targeted every 4-6 weeks depending on project conditions, with reasonable flights or mileage supported by the organization.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $51.00/hr.
