General Description of the Position
Delaware State University (DSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry with expertise in chemical data science (data-driven chemistry), organic chemistry, physical chemistry, or a closely related field, to begin Fall 2026.
Delaware State University is a historically Black, 1890 land-grant institution committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service, and to the education and mentorship of a diverse student population. The Department of Chemistry supports robust undergraduate and graduate programs (MS and PhD) and is home to active research initiatives, including environmental chemistry, water quality, and advanced instrumentation.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Qualification Standards
Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
Demonstrated potential for high-quality teaching and scholarly research.
Expertise in one or more of the following:
Chemical data science / data-driven chemistry/chemoinformatics
Organic chemistry
Physical chemistry
Ability to effectively teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Postdoctoral research experience.
Teaching experience in organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and/or computational/data-oriented chemistry.
Evidence of a well-defined research agenda with strong potential for external funding.
Experience or interest in interdisciplinary research, including:
Machine learning or AI in chemistry
Computational chemistry
Spectroscopy and analytical chemistry
Materials chemistry
Kinetics and thermodynamics
Environmental or applied chemistry
Interest in leveraging analytical instrumentation and data-rich environments.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
