    Position Description

The Lewis & Clark College Department of Psychology invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Clinical or Counseling Psychology to begin Fall 2027.

    Qualifications

We seek candidates whose research and teaching complement the department's existing strengths. While areas of specialty are open, we are particularly interested in individuals who have expertise in mental health, clinical neuroscience, health psychology, personality psychology, forensic psychology, and/or psychology of gender. Candidates are expected to develop an active research program that incorporates undergraduate collaborators in a small, liberal arts setting. Excellent teaching credentials, an appreciation of the role of research at an undergraduate institution, and a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g. Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a closely related field) are essential. Preference given to candidates who are license-eligible. The normal teaching load is five courses per academic year, and the candidate will regularly teach introductory and upper-level courses in abnormal and clinical psychology, upper-level specialty courses related to their area(s) of expertise, and a course in our departmental core (Introduction to Psychology, Statistics, or Research Methods).

A complete application must include a cover letter which describes your interest in joining Lewis & Clark College, your research interests, your teaching philosophy, and a statement describing how your teaching and professional activities will contribute to an inclusive classroom and campus community. We also require a curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a sample of scholarship (which may be work in progress), graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation (uploaded separately by your recommenders). Materials may be addressed to Professor Brian Detweiler-Bedell.

Review of applications will begin on November 15th, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
