Position Title: Assistant Professor of Nursing, Medical- Surgical Clincal Placement Coordinator

Reports to: Chairperson, Department of Nursing

Supervises: N/A

Primary function: The Saint Vincent College Department of Nursing is seeking a full-time faculty member with expertise in Medical-Surgical Nursing. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic mission of the department through high-quality teaching, student mentorship, curriculum development, and scholarly engagement. This role is ideal for a nurse educator who is passionate about preparing the next generation of professional nurses and advancing excellence in medical-surgical practice.

This position will be pivotal in the ongoing development and implementation of the nursing program. The faculty member will work closely with other faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure compliance with the Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education and accreditation standards in the delivery of baccalaureate and master's level education, support of grant-funded projects, and advance the mission and strategic goals of the nursing program and Saint Vincent College.

The faculty member will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Nursing and lead a coordinated, data-driven NCLEX success strategy by overseeing ATI integration, standardizing testing and remediation processes, training faculty, and delivering targeted NCLEX preparation.

This is a 12-month position with faculty rank appropriate for qualifications and previous experience that maintains teaching responsibilities each semester through the calendar year. Candidates with a doctoral degree are eligible for a tenure-track appointment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current (unencumbered) license as a Registered Nurse and/or APRN in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • National certification upon hire or within 2 years of eligibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the college or university level (classroom, clinical, and/or simulation).
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrated ability to manage projects and advise students and faculty.
  • Exceptional organizational ability with great attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with curriculum development, simulation pedagogy, and/or innovative teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity or potential for research.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards (e.g., CCNE) and program assessment.
  • Experience with NCLEX success program (e.g., ATI).

Education: An earned doctorate in nursing or current enrollment in a doctoral program is required.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical nursing practice. A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in an academic setting or healthcare institution working with clinical disciplines (nursing, medicine, pharmacy, and/or other health-related fields, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses with a primary focus on medical-surgical nursing and associated courses such as population health, vulnerable populations, and community health in classroom, clinical, and simulation settings.
  • Develop and revise curriculum to ensure alignment with current evidence-based practice, accreditation standards, and program outcomes.
  • Supervise and evaluate students in clinical placements, skills labs, and simulation experiences.
  • Function as ATI champion.
  • Coordinate ATI integration across the curriculum to optimize student subscriptions and resource utilization
  • Design and deliver faculty orientation and ongoing training on ATI tools, testing processes, and best practices
  • Define and standardize student practice, remediation, and testing workflows to ensure consistency and accountability

  • Coordinate NCLEX preparation courses for senior BSN and Year 2 DE-MSN students
  • Monitor student performance data to identify trends, intervene early, and support at-risk students
  • Collaborate with faculty to align NCLEX readiness strategies with curricular outcomes and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide individualized coaching for at-risk students
  • Develop structured remediation plans
  • Support students' transition from coursework to licensure preparation
  • Advise and mentor students, supporting academic success, professional development, and progression through the program.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, which may include research, publications, presentations, or practice-based inquiry.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional service, including committee work, program assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Maintain active professional practice or continuing education to stay current in the field of medical-surgical nursing.
  • Collaborate with other departments within Saint Vincent College to facilitate interprofessional education and collaborative teaching/learning/research opportunities.

  1. Extensive knowledge of nursing pedagogy, program operations, standards of best practice and instructional techniques/technologies.

  2. Knowledge and experience of curriculum design and implementation.

  3. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

  4. Ability to foster a culture of respect, collaboration, innovation, and continuous quality improvement.

  5. Ability to lift and move lab equipment, mannequins, and other training models.
