POSITION OVERVIEW
Southwestern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Engineering to begin in August 2027. Southwestern University is actively pursuing ABET accreditation for its newly launched B.S. in Engineering. The successful candidate will join a small, collaborative engineering faculty and will be expected to contribute meaningfully to program assessment, continuous improvement, and the ABET accreditation process of this general engineering degree.
The University's standard teaching load is five courses a year, along with departmental responsibilities, advising, university service, and participation in the University's First-Year Seminar Program. Candidates will be expected to teach introductory-level physics and engineering courses as well as upper-level engineering courses. The candidate will be encouraged to develop two specialty courses in their specific area of interest. Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching undergraduate courses and interdisciplinary collaboration. Starting annual salary for 9-month position: $80,000. The final offer for the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience and may exceed this figure. Teaching in Southwestern University summer school provides faculty with an opportunity to supplement their income during the summer months. Tenure-track faculty typically conduct research with undergraduate students during the summer, and their income can be supplemented through competitive Southwestern Undergraduate Research with Faculty (SURF) funding.
