Assistant Professor of Creative Writing

The Department of English at Syracuse University invites applications for a tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing (Fiction) in our nationally renowned MFA Creative Writing program beginning in the Fall of 2027. Graduate and undergraduate teaching of creative writing workshops and literary seminars courses at the college level is preferred, but commensurate experience in the field will be considered.

MFA or terminal degree required.

Job Specific Qualifications

A strong publication record (including at least one novel or short-story collection in print from a nationally recognized press and significant recognition in the form of fellowships, awards or nominations) is required. We seek a writer with a commitment to excellence in teaching who will participate fully in the MFA program's vibrant literary community. Responsibilities

The position entails teaching two courses a semester, which may include graduate-level workshops and craft courses, as well as advanced creative writing courses for our undergraduate majors. The teaching load is a 2/2 for the academic year. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in effective, student-centered teaching practices and have a demonstrated record of strong, supportive teaching, as well as experience guiding students with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
