Job Summary:

The Department of Art & Communication in the Getty College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio Northern University welcomes applicants for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Communication, with a specialization in Interpersonal and/or Organizational Communication.

We seek a talented individual who is (1) passionate about teaching that bridges theoretical foundations in Communication with real-world practice, (2) committed to interdisciplinary scholarship that involves undergraduates, and (3) invested in student success. A Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a related discipline is required. ABD applicants will be considered as long as all degree requirements are completed by September 1, 2027. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness, a promising research agenda, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the Interpersonal/Organizational Communication (I/O) pathway of the department’s major in Communication & Media. The I/O pathway is one of three within the Communication & Media major, alongside Media, Culture & Society and Digital Communication & Content Creation. Candidates with expertise in the following specializations of Interpersonal and/or Organizational communication are encouraged to apply: communication in the workplace, relational communication, sports communication, or human-machine/AI-mediated communication.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses such as Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Communication, Group Dynamics, Presentational Speaking, and courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, strategically developed in response to student interest and evolving professional needs. Ohio Northern faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences teach 23-25 credit hours per year. Additional responsibilities include advising undergraduate students, scholarship, and service.
