    Description

    Jackson State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Engineering, with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering.

    Examples of Duties

    • Teach undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses, as well as other general engineering courses, as assigned by the Department Chair.
    • Develop and maintain a strong, externally funded research program; conduct independent research; and publish regularly in high-quality, peer-reviewed engineering journals.
    • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including supervising M.S. thesis and Ph.D. dissertation research.
    • Initiate and participate in collaborative research activities both within the university and with external partners, including industry and other academic institutions.
    • Contribute to service activities at the department, college, and university levels, and provide professional service to the broader community.
    • Actively participate in accreditation and assessment processes, including SACSCOC and ABET requirements.
    • Engage in student recruitment, curriculum development, and other departmental initiatives as assigned by the Department Chair.
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to working with a diverse student population and foster a collegial, collaborative environment among faculty, staff, and students.

    Typical Qualifications

    • A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment.
    • The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
    • Evidence of the potential to establish and sustain an active, externally funded research program is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to publish high-quality research in reputable, peer-reviewed engineering journals.
    • Candidates should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners.
    • Industrial experience is highly desirable, as it enhances the ability to bridge theory and practice in both teaching and research.
    • Possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, or the ability to obtain one, is strongly preferred.
