The Department of Geography at Bridgewater State University is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor. Our department is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, research, applied geography and outreach. The department offers: B.S. in Geography with concentrations in Environmental Planning and Conservation, and Environmental Sustainability and Climate Resilience; B.A. in Geography with concentrations in Geography for Educators, and Sustainable Global Systems; minors in Geography, Geospatial Science, Urban Studies and Planning; and a post-graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems. Our department consists of six full-time faculty, four part-time faculty and an administrative assistant, and has dedicated physical/human/geospatial classrooms and laboratories in the Dana Mohler-Faria Center for Science and Mathematics. Our department serves a diverse student body, with 27% of our students identifying as students of color, and we are committed to further strengthening diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across our programs and community.

Essential Duties
The Department of Geography at Bridgewater State University is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor faculty position, beginning in the Fall of 2027.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with expertise in physical geography. Teaching responsibilities include courses in physical geography and geospatial science. The successful candidate is expected to bring new ideas for course offerings related to that candidate's area of expertise that support the department's leadership role in applying geospatial data to problems in sustainability and resilience. A commitment to teaching excellence that supports a diverse student body is essential. This faculty member will help support the geography department's growing undergraduate programs, a new graduate GIS certificate program, collaborations with other BSU programs, and high-impact practices such as fieldwork, undergraduate research, internships, and service-learning opportunities.
Essential faculty duties also include participation in departmental meetings, committee work, departmental curriculum development, and advising students in course selection and major progress.
Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching and service, as well as demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.
Required Qualifications
A PhD in Geography or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered provided that they will have their PhD in hand by September 1, 2027.
Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
Demonstrate the ability to teach lecture and laboratory sections.
Demonstrate a well-developed research plan incorporating undergraduate students into a research program.
Applicants must also demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and undergraduate research mentoring that enhances an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching and technology expertise.
Expertise in physical geography, geospatial science and undergraduate high impact practices.

Salary is commensurate with experience in accordance with the Appendix O of the MSCA contract. A reasonable starting salary range to expect for a new faculty member appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor is $75,000 to $85,000.
