Description:
The Psychology Department at the University of Houston seeks applicants for a Presidential Frontier Faculty tenure-track Assistant Professor position, effective Fall 2027. The Presidential Frontier Faculty program is a university-wide interdisciplinary hiring campaign aimed at enhancing the UH research enterprise by integrating the strengths of existing faculty and infrastructure with strong early career new faculty hires. We seek a behavioral neuroscientist who uses animal models to investigate the mechanisms underlying memory function or impairment, particularly aging-related memory dysfunction, including neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and related dementias. The position will be a split appointment between Psychology and the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics (TIMES). TIMES is a university-level research center that supports faculty from multiple disciplines and departments, including Psychology.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience or a related field and have postdoctoral experience. Competitive candidates will have a strong publication record and an externally funded research program, which may include mentored fellowship awards or independent funding. The successful candidate is also expected to 1) collaborate with faculty within the department and across the university, particularly within the expanding neuroscience and biomedical research community; 2) contribute to the university's strategic initiatives related to neurodegenerative disease and 3) demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring.
The Department of Psychology is a highly collegial group of nationally and internationally recognized tenure-track and research faculty committed to advancing science of the brain, mind and mental health. Our faculty conduct rigorous, externally funded research and our department consistently ranks in the top five in external funding at UH. We have over 3800 undergraduate majors and 130 PhD students across 4 areas: clinical; social, personality, and health (SPH); industrial organizational (IO); and developmental, cognitive and behavioral neuroscience (DCBN). The Department of Psychology provides state-of-the-art laboratory space within the Health 1 Building (H1) that includes wet lab space, animal housing, and an animal behavioral core as well as access to advanced core facilities across the UH campus, and abundant opportunities for collaboration within the university and with nearby institutions.
