Position Description

Advertised Job Summary The faculty of the Department of Sociology at the University of South Carolina Columbia campus invites applications for a 9-month full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16 2026. We seek candidates with expertise in the areas of socially informed artificial intelligence and/or data science. We view these areas each as broadly construed to range from things like their effects in society to their production and development and correspondingly seek candidates from a full spectrum of methodological orientations. This position is part of a cluster of targeted hires supported by a broader presidential hiring initiative which will offer a cohort of incoming scholars sharing focus on these broad themes enhancing sociologys contributions to this initiative.

Successful candidates will be expected to maintain an active program of research teach contribute to departmental service and mentor graduate students in our Ph.D. program.

Required Education and Experience Applicants must have a PhD degree in sociology or a closely related field by the start date of employment.
