    Position Purpose

    Assists the Produce Manager in overseeing all aspects of produce department operations, including customer service, merchandising, inventory management, product quality, food safety, labor management, and associate development. Supports department performance goals by maintaining fresh, high-quality products and delivering an exceptional shopping experience. Assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Produce Manager.

    Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development

    • Assist in supervising, training, coaching, and developing produce department associates.
    • Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and customer service.
    • Assist with scheduling and labor planning to meet department needs.
    • Monitor associate productivity and provide coaching to improve performance.
    • Serve as acting department manager when the Produce Manager is absent.

    Customer Service

    • Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
    • Assist customers with product selection, seasonal offerings, and special requests.
    • Ensure associates provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
    • Promote customer satisfaction through product quality and department appearance.

    Merchandising & Sales

    • Assist with execution of merchandising plans, promotional activities, and seasonal displays.
    • Maintain attractive, fully stocked displays that encourage sales and enhance the customer experience.
    • Ensure proper pricing, signage, and promotional compliance.
    • Monitor sales performance and implement strategies to drive department growth.

    Product Quality & Freshness

    • Ensure produce products meet company standards for freshness, quality, and presentation.
    • Monitor product rotation, culling, and replenishment to minimize shrink and maintain appearance.
    • Verify proper handling, storage, and display of all produce items.
    • Maintain high standards for cleanliness and product presentation throughout the department.

    Food Safety & Sanitation

    • Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
    • Ensure proper product handling, storage temperatures, and sanitation procedures are followed.
    • Conduct routine department inspections and implement corrective actions when necessary.
    • Promote a safe and clean working environment for associates and customers.

    Inventory & Financial Management

    • Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory control, and invoice reconciliation.
    • Monitor inventory levels to maintain in-stock conditions while minimizing excess inventory.
    • Support achievement of department sales, labor, profit, and shrink goals.
    • Assist with managing department expenses and controlling product loss.

    Compliance & Operational Excellence

    • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
    • Support department audits and corrective action plans.
    • Assist with implementing company programs and operational initiatives.
    • Maintain accurate department records and documentation.
