This role will support procurement operations, supplier management, inventory planning, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure optimal supply chain performance. The ideal candidate will bring strong purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to work effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Assistant Procurement Manager
Location: Burlington, NJ
Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 + Benefits
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Support procurement planning activities to ensure uninterrupted operations and alignment with business objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while supporting contract negotiations related to pricing, quality, and delivery.
- Analyze supplier proposals, compare bids, and assist in supplier selection and contract award decisions.
- Monitor supplier performance through key metrics including quality, on-time delivery, pricing accuracy, and order fulfillment.
- Collaborate with Technical, Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, Finance, and Planning teams to address material issues and ensure supply continuity.
- Assist with sourcing, qualifying, and onboarding new suppliers.
- Support procurement budgeting, reporting, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Participate in ERP optimization projects and process improvement initiatives.
Inventory & Supply Planning
- Assist in managing raw material and packaging inventories to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Monitor inventory requirements based on production schedules, forecasts, and customer demand.
- Develop and maintain vendor-supported inventory programs.
- Partner with internal departments to communicate future material requirements to suppliers.
- Analyze forecasts and demand trends to support production and inventory planning.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Support departmental initiatives focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Communicate procurement risks, material shortages, and supplier concerns to leadership while providing recommendations for resolution.
- Participate in cross-functional committees related to procurement, planning, and operations.
- Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, quality, and ISO standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Accounting, Operations Management, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or related experience.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- 3+ years of experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, contract administration, and supplier relationship management.
- Experience negotiating supplier pricing and commercial agreements.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ERP system experience and proficiency with data-driven decision-making.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel periodically as business needs require.
Preferred
- Knowledge of import/export regulations and customs requirements.
- Experience supporting ERP implementations, optimization projects, or process automation initiatives.
Physical & Work Environment
- Primarily based onsite in Burlington, NJ, with work performed in both office and manufacturing plant environments.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and communication with employees, suppliers, and leadership.
- Occasional handling of materials and equipment.
- Exposure to plant conditions including varying temperatures, dust, noise, and manufacturing operations.
- Personal protective equipment required while in production areas.
