General Information Job Title: Assistant Principal School System: Wilcox County Subject: Educational Leadership Grade Level: Leadership Closing date: 04/27/2026 Start date: 4/13/2026 Job Description Position Title: Assistant Principal - Alternative Learning Center Location: Wilcox County Alternative Learning Center (WALC) Reports To: PK-12 Principal / Superintendent or Designee Full-time Position Position Summary: The Assistant Principal of the Wilcox County Alternative Learning Center (WALC) provides leadership and oversight for the daily operations of the alternative learning program. This position ensures a structured, supportive, and academically focused environment for students requiring alternative educational services. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with district and school leadership to promote student success through academic monitoring, behavioral support, and individualized learning pathways. Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field required Valid Georgia Leadership Certification (Tier I or higher) Valid Georgia Special Education Certification required Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience, preferably including work with at-risk or special education populations Demonstrated leadership experience preferred Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee the daily operations and management of the Wilcox County Alternative Learning Center (WALC) Supervise and evaluate teachers, tutors, and support staff in accordance with district and state guidelines Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and orderly learning environment Monitor and support student behavior, implementing appropriate interventions and restorative practices Collect, analyze, and monitor student data, including attendance, discipline, grades, and credit accumulation Ensure students remain on track for graduation through consistent monitoring of academic progress Enroll students in the district's online learning program and assign appropriate coursework aligned to graduation requirements Coordinate individualized learning plans for students, including those with IEPs, 504 Plans, and other support services Collaborate with counselors, special education staff, and administrators to support student success and compliance with all state and federal regulations Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, expectations, and interventions Support and enforce district policies, including attendance, discipline, and student code of conduct Assist with student intake, placement decisions, and transition planning back to the traditional school setting when appropriate Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting for district, state, and federal requirements Utilize technology systems effectively for student tracking, scheduling, and reporting Additional Responsibilities: Demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders Support school improvement initiatives aligned with district goals and accountability measures (CCRPI, GMAS, etc.) Assist in the development and implementation of behavior intervention systems and positive school culture initiatives Participate in professional learning and leadership development opportunities Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of alternative education programs and at-risk student populations Thorough understanding of special education laws, procedures, and compliance requirements Proficiency in data analysis and use of student information systems Advanced computer and technology skills, including online learning platforms Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills Ability to build positive relationships and maintain a student-centered focus Working Conditions: Primarily school-based environment at the Wilcox County Alternative Learning Center Requires occasional extended hours for meetings, events, or student support needs Will assist in supervising and covering athletic events and other extracurricular activities as assigned.
