    Assistant Portfolio Engineer

    Location: Akron, OH
    Employment Type: Long-Term Contract

    Position Overview

    We are seeking an Assistant Portfolio Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity with our client in Akron, OH. This position will support the development and coordination of a long-range portfolio of transmission line, substation, network, and physical security projects.

    The Assistant Portfolio Engineer will work closely with planning engineers, project sponsors, project managers, and other stakeholders to develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, conceptual estimates, and long-range portfolio plans.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with the development and maintenance of the long-range integrated portfolio plan for transmission, substation, network, and physical security projects.

    • Coordinate with planning portfolio engineers, management, project sponsors, and other stakeholders to identify project needs, priorities, timing, and dependencies.

    • Identify opportunities to combine or coordinate projects to improve efficiency and minimize conflicts across the portfolio.

    • Participate in budget planning meetings and help incorporate approved projects and strategies into the long-range plan.

    • Work with stakeholders to determine appropriate budget years for transmission projects based on project need, feasibility, constructability, and available funding.

    • Review proposed projects to confirm appropriate scope and supporting justification.

    • Develop conceptual project estimates and preliminary schedules in coordination with project sponsors and Project Managers.

    • Support development and maintenance of the client's 10-year capital plan.

    • Assist with compiling project and financial information used in PJM rate filings.

    • Review preliminary engineering estimates for scope completeness and accuracy.

    • Coordinate with outage planning teams to help sequence regional projects while minimizing outage and construction conflicts.

    • Develop baseline project scopes, schedules, and budgets for release to project stakeholders.

    • Coordinate with accounting teams to establish the appropriate financial setup for new projects.

    • Prepare analyses, reports, and portfolio tracking tools to support project planning, coordination, and execution.

    • Provide informal technical guidance and knowledge sharing related to transmission and distribution design and project development.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.

    • Strong attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work professionally with multiple stakeholder groups.

    • Ability to coordinate projects across multiple organizations during project initiation and planning.

    • Understanding of engineering project scopes, schedules, budgets, and conceptual estimating preferred.

    • Transmission and distribution, substation, utility, or power delivery experience preferred.

    • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
