William Jewell College invites applications from outstanding candidates for an Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor in the areas of geotechnical engineering or structural engineering.  This is a full-time faculty position beginning in August 2026 with the possibility of starting in January 2026. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start of the position.  
 
Appointment level will be based on an applicant's scholarly and teaching record and practical experience. All Teaching Professor positions, regardless of rank, are non-tenured positions appointed for a three-year limited term period; however, the intent is for this position to be a long-term position. Due to the percentage of effort focused upon instructional duties, all applicants must possess outstanding teaching skills and teach 12 credit hours of regularly scheduled classes per semester.
 
A Ph.D. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required with the ideal candidate qualified to teach undergraduate courses in structural engineering or geotechnical engineering as well as other introductory civil engineering courses. The successful applicant will have a passion for undergraduate engineering education, assist in program development (course and curriculum development and program assessment), mentor engineering students, especially during their capstone design projects, develop and foster relationships with industry, and recruit and advise students.
 
Preference will be given to applicants with strong leadership skills, the ability to teach a range of undergraduate civil engineering courses, and the desire to integrate fully in a critical thinking college.
 
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related field is preferred. M.S. in Civil Engineering or closely related field required.
  • Ability to teach across the undergraduate civil engineering curriculum preferred with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering or structural engineering
  • Ability to develop courses, curriculum, and assess and evaluate
  • Professional licensure preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Teaching 24 contact hours per year
  • Development of curriculum and assessment tools
  • Service to the College and community including academic advising and involvement in College and departmental committees and activities
