The School of Teacher Education (STE) in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (Anne's College) and the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) at the Florida State University invite applications for a nine-month, tenured or tenure-earning assistant or associate professor of Reading Education or Special Education. The position will involve teaching, research, and service within STE, and will include a joint appointment with FCRR. The position carries a reduced teaching assignment with correspondingly high expectations for research productivity.
The successful candidate will have a tenure home in one of two majors within STE: Reading Education or Special Education. These majors work closely together in STE and FCRR, so a collaborative orientation is desired. The candidate will be expected to maintain a rigorous grant writing and research program, including competitive externally funded research grants. The candidate will also teach undergraduate, masters, and/or doctoral level classes within their program, and train doctoral students through active participation in their research program. The candidate will also be expected to participate in university governance in the department, college, and FCRR, at a level that is commensurate with their rank.
The candidate will join an interdisciplinary group of colleagues and students at STE, Anne's College, and FCRR. Drawing from multiple disciplines, FCRR investigates all aspects of reading and reading-related skills across the lifespan. Through rigorous and robust research, innovation, and engagement, FCRR advances the science of reading to improve learning and achievement from birth through adulthood. Meanwhile, Anne's College advances society and enriches our community through support and education, while enhancing the quality of life of all our students, faculty and staff. Through meaningful collaborations, commitment to public scholarship, and integration of research, practice and policy, Anne's College addresses America's urgent education challenges in the innovative manner characteristic of FSU.
The roots of FSU's Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences date back to the university's establishment, and it is the oldest college of its kind in Florida. The College is home to six academic departments united through a common goal to maximize human potential. In total, the College includes the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems, Department of Human Development & Family Sciences, Department of Health, Nutrition & Food Sciences, Department of Sport Management, School of Teacher Education, numerous research centers, and three laboratory schools (Florida State University School, FSU Pembroke Pines Charter School, and The Collegiate School at FSU Panama City). Anne's College serves over 4,000 students via approximately 200 full-time faculty and nearly 80 full-time staff.
