    SUMMARY Under general supervision, supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities and unit operations of an assigned inpatient nursing unit; ensures adherence to organizational and unit policies and procedures, and accepted nursing protocols and procedures. Collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care. Reports to Nurse Manager.

    Position Specific Role Responsibilities

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Collaborates with Nurse Manager, Education Support and physician leaders to manage clinical and non-clinical staff

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    Education Required: BSN required or must obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire.

    Education Preferred: Master's degree preferred.

    Experience Required: Minimum 5 years relevant nursing experience required.

    Experience Preferred Management experience strongly preferred.

    Position Specific Job Education and/or Experience

    LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

    Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse licensure is required and maintained thereafter.

    Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant is required upon hire

    Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by department

    Position Specific Job License and/or Certification Required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Day-to-day needs of patients on unit;
    • Accreditation and certification requirements and standards
    • Medical equipment as it relates to patient care on unit

    SKILLS:

    • Demonstrates computer proficiency in Windows environment; and use of Internet as research tool;
    • Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Demonstrates leadership and management skills or potential to learn including communication, conflict
    • resolution, team building, problem solving and decision making.
    • Aptitude with EHR systems

    ABILITY TO:

    • Have leadership presence during off-shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends & holidays
    • Demonstrate all of the CCMC Leadership core behaviors, values and code of conduct or demonstrate the potential to do so
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Utilize independent judgment to resolve problems and make decisions on routine managerial matters on assigned shift
    • Supervise and foster employee development and performance management
    • Act in a professional capacity any serve as a professional role model.
    • Coordinate quality assurance programs, and enforce organizational and unit policies, procedures and Standards
    • Rounding to influence for operational changes and to promote positive behaviors as well as Rounding with Families to foster patient satisfaction.
