Located in Springfield, Massachusetts, Baystate Medical Center is a Magnet-designated hospital for nursing excellence and a leader in providing advanced oncology care to patients throughout Western Massachusetts.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) with leadership experience and a passion for developing teams, improving patient outcomes, and advancing exceptional cancer care.

Position Highlights

As the Assistant Nurse Manager, you will partner with the Nurse Manager to provide clinical leadership and support a high-performing oncology nursing team. This role provides direct leadership on off-shifts and weekends while promoting excellence in patient care, staff engagement, and operational performance.

Responsibilities include:

• Serve as a clinical leader, resource, and role model for oncology nursing excellence
• Support delivery of safe, high-quality patient care and achievement of unit-based quality outcomes
• Partner with nursing leadership to implement performance improvement initiatives and evidence-based practices
• Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork, professional growth, and caregiver engagement
• Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, recognition, and development of nursing staff
• Foster a culture aligned with Magnet principles, shared governance, and professional nursing practice
• Provide visible leadership on the inpatient oncology unit and support daily clinical operations
• Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and hospital partners to meet patient care needs
• Support staffing plans based on patient volume, acuity, and operational needs
• Evaluate nursing workflows, clinical processes, and documentation practices to improve efficiency and outcomes
• Partner with the Nurse Educator and Nurse Manager to support staff education, competency development, and a learning environment

About the Oncology Unit – Springfield 3

The Springfield 3 Oncology Unit provides specialized inpatient care for patients receiving advanced cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Our team is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care while supporting patients and families throughout their healthcare journey.

Required Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS certification
• ADN required; BSN preferred
• Minimum of 3–5 years of oncology nursing experience
• Experience caring for patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy required

Preferred Qualifications

• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certificate
• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
• Previous nursing leadership, charge nurse, preceptor, or supervisory experience
