Assistant Music Director – Band & ChoirJob Title: Assistant Music Director – Band & ChoirLocation: Grand Peak AcademyFLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports to: Music Director & Assistant PrincipalWork Hours/Days: Part-Time, Seasonal; rehearsal, performance, concert, and event daysSeason Date: August-MayWage Range: $1,750 total (not to exceed 115 hours per year)Key ResponsibilitiesAssist the Music Director with the planning, organization, and implementation of the school's band and choir programs.Provide musical instruction and support to students in both band and choir under the direction of the Music Director.Assist with conducting rehearsals, sectional practices, and small-group instruction as directed.Support students in developing musical skills, performance techniques, musicianship, and an understanding of musical concepts.Assist the Music Director with selecting, preparing, and teaching music for concerts, performances, and other events.Demonstrate leadership by implementing and reinforcing the expectations, vision, and direction of the music program.Assist with preparing students for performances, including rehearsals, staging, transitions, and performance expectations.Attend all scheduled rehearsals, concerts, performances, meetings, and other required music-related events.Assist with student attendance, supervision, behavior expectations, and transitions during rehearsals and performances.Assist with the setup, organization, transportation, and takedown of instruments, music stands, sound equipment, risers, chairs, and other performance materials.Assist with organizing and maintaining music, instruments, uniforms, equipment, and other program resources.Provide additional instruction and support to students who may need assistance with musical concepts, practice, or performance preparation.Communicate effectively with students, families, school staff, and community members as directed by the Music Director.Lead rehearsals, sectionals, or other music activities in extenuating circumstances when the Music Director may not be present.Work collaboratively with the Music Director to ensure a cohesive and successful band and choir program.Assist with other duties related to the music program as assigned by the Music Director or school administration.Position RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED.Degree, coursework, or significant experience in music, music education, performing arts, or a related field preferred.Previous experience working with band, choir, or school music programs preferred.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of instrumental and vocal music.Demonstrated proficiency with one or more musical instruments and/or vocal instruction.Experience conducting or leading musical rehearsals preferred.Experience working with school-age students preferred.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals.Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all student musicians.Ability to provide appropriate student supervision and maintain positive behavior expectations.Ability to support both the instructional and performance components of a band and choir program.Adherence to all GPA policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies.Physical RequirementsMust be able to lift up to 25 pounds.Must be able to traverse rehearsal, classroom, performance, and event spaces indoors and/or outdoors.Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move instruments, equipment, music stands, risers, and other materials as needed.Must be able to participate in rehearsals, concerts, performances, and events that may require extended periods of standing or activity.
