    Position Purpose

    Assists the Meat Manager in overseeing all aspects of meat department operations, including customer service, merchandising, production, inventory management, food safety, labor utilization, and associate development. Supports department goals by maintaining high standards of product quality, freshness, profitability, and operational excellence. Assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Meat Manager.

    Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development

    • Assist in supervising, training, coaching, and developing meat department associates.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, customer service, and operational excellence.
    • Support scheduling and labor planning to meet department needs.
    • Monitor associate performance and provide ongoing coaching and development.
    • Serve as acting department manager in the absence of the Meat Manager.

    Customer Service

    • Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure customer concerns are resolved promptly and professionally.
    • Assist customers with product selection, preparation recommendations, and special orders.
    • Ensure associates provide knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient service.
    • Promote customer loyalty through outstanding service and product quality.

    Merchandising & Sales

    • Assist with merchandising plans, promotional displays, and seasonal programs.
    • Maintain attractive, fully stocked service cases and self-service displays.
    • Ensure product pricing, signage, and merchandising standards are executed properly.
    • Monitor sales performance and assist with implementing strategies to increase department sales.

    Product Quality & Production

    • Ensure all meat products meet company standards for freshness, quality, and presentation.
    • Assist in managing meat cutting, packaging, grinding, and value-added production activities.
    • Monitor product rotation and code dating to maintain freshness and minimize shrink.
    • Verify proper handling and storage of all products.

    Food Safety & Sanitation

    • Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
    • Ensure proper temperature controls, storage procedures, and product handling practices.
    • Conduct routine inspections and address food safety concerns immediately.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe department environment.

    Inventory & Financial Management

    • Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory control, and invoice reconciliation.
    • Monitor department shrink and implement strategies to reduce waste and loss.
    • Support achievement of department sales, gross profit, labor, and productivity goals.
    • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing out-of-stock conditions.

    Compliance & Operational Excellence

    • Ensure compliance with company policies, operational standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist in completing department audits and implementing corrective actions.
    • Support company initiatives, programs, and process improvements.
    • Maintain required department records and documentation.
