    Position Purpose

    The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing all aspects of meat department operations, including merchandising, inventory management, food safety, customer service, production, and associate development. This position helps ensure department profitability, product quality, and operational excellence while delivering an exceptional shopping experience for customers.

    Key Responsibilities Department Operations

    • Assist in managing daily meat department operations to ensure efficiency, product availability, and department readiness.
    • Ensure fresh meat, seafood, and value-added products are properly stocked, rotated, and merchandised.
    • Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation standards to maintain customer satisfaction.
    • Assist with production planning, merchandising execution, and promotional activities.
    • Support ordering, receiving, inventory management, and shrink reduction initiatives.
    • Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and equipment readiness.

    Customer Service

    • Provide exceptional customer service and foster a customer-focused department culture.
    • Assist customers with product selection, preparation recommendations, and special orders.
    • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
    • Ensure department displays support a positive shopping experience.
    • Promote sales through product knowledge and suggestive selling techniques.

    Leadership & Team Development

    • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing meat department associates.
    • Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to team members.
    • Monitor productivity, work quality, and adherence to operational standards.
    • Support scheduling and staffing needs to meet department objectives.
    • Promote teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
    • Assume department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Meat Manager.

    Inventory & Product Management

    • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to maintain in-stock conditions.
    • Ensure proper receiving, storage, rotation, and handling of all meat products.
    • Utilize First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory practices.
    • Assist with inventory counts, audits, and shrink control processes.
    • Monitor product movement and identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve profitability.

    Food Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor proper storage temperatures, labeling, product dating, and handling procedures.
    • Maintain department sanitation standards and cleaning schedules.
    • Promote workplace safety and proper equipment operation.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, operating procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

    Financial Performance

    • Assist in achieving departmental sales, labor, gross profit, and shrink goals.
    • Support labor productivity and effective resource utilization.
    • Analyze department performance and assist in implementing improvement plans.
    • Help manage expenses through proper inventory control and production planning.
    • Contribute to the achievement of overall store performance objectives.
