    POSITION MISSION

    The Assistant Manager (AM) is a developmental leadership role designed to prepare future General Managers for success within Bagel Brands. The AM partners closely with the General Manager (GM) to lead bakery operations, develop people, and drive business results.

    This is a time-based development role, generally 6-12 months, with progression based on demonstrated readiness, business needs, and individual capability. The AM takes increasing ownership of key operating systems, people development, and business performance to build the skills required to independently lead a bakery as a General Manager.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    Guest Experience & Bakery Operations

    • Lead daily bakery operations to ensure fast, friendly, and accurate service for every guest, setting the standard for guest-first behaviors and hospitality.

    • Uphold brand standards for food quality, speed of service, hospitality, cleanliness, and safety.

    • Actively participate in food preparation, inventory management, catering execution, and delivery coordination as needed.

    • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming bakery environment in compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company standards.

    • Support cash handling, deposits, and operational controls as delegated by the GM.

    • Serve as Acting General Manager with full authority during the GM’s absence.

    • Demonstrate a consistent focus on the guest experience by addressing issues in the moment and reinforcing behaviors that make guests feel welcomed and valued.

    Business Ownership & Results

    • Own one or more core operating systems (e.g., labor scheduling, inventory accuracy, training and certification, or performance management), taking full accountability for results and continuous improvement, with increasing scope over time.

    • Partner with the GM to review bakery financial performance, including labor, sales, and controllable costs.

    • Participate in business reviews, identify gaps in performance, and help develop and execute action plans.

    • Support weekly scheduling and labor planning to balance guest demand, team experience, and cost targets.

    • Execute company initiatives consistently and with attention to detail.

    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

    Team Leadership & Talent Development

    • Lead by example, modeling Bagel Brands’ values and leadership competencies every day, including supporting teammates, recognizing effort, and creating an environment where people feel encouraged and respected.

    • Coach, train, and provide ongoing feedback to Shift Leaders, Bakers and Team Members.

    • Own the development and certification of Shift Leaders, building a strong succession pipeline.

    • Conduct performance conversations, recognition, and corrective coaching in partnership with the GM.

    • Take accountability for developing a successor for the AGM role.

    • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that drives engagement and retention.

    Personal Development & Readiness for GM

    • Take ownership of the development journey from Assistant Manager to General Manager.

    • Actively participate in required training, mentorship, and leadership development programs.

    • Seek feedback and coaching to strengthen leadership, operations, and business acumen.

    • Demonstrate readiness for increased responsibility through consistent performance and measurable improvement in at least one core business metric.

    LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES

    While the AM role is developmental, individuals are expected to demonstrate Bagel Brands’ leadership competencies through daily leadership, ownership, and influence.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills.

    • 1–2 years of leadership experience with Bagel Brands preferred.

    • Ability to read, write, and complete documentation in English.

    • Ability to read and understand menu boards, order monitors, and operational tools.

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule (40+ hours a week), including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    • Must pass background check as required by law.

    • Must hold and maintain ServSafe Certification and any required local certifications (e.g., food handler, allergen training).

    • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements, if applicable.

    • Must wear non-slip shoes in accordance with uniform policy.

    ADDITIONAL NOTES

    • While the AM role is location-based, future advancement to General Manager may require relocation depending on market needs and available opportunities.

    • All AMs must enter into the Rise Leadership Development Program at the start of their tenure in role. Successful completion of the program is required prior to application and placement into a General Manager position.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and movement during working hours. The AM must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and operate under time pressure. These requirements may be met with or without reasonable accommodation.
