Baptist Shelby Hospital, located just outside of Birmingham in Alabaster, Alabama, is seeking a full-time ICU assistant medical director to join our team!
The ICU AMD at Baptist Shelby serves as a clinical and operational leader within the critical care program. In partnership with the ICU medical director, this role supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while advancing clinical excellence, physician engagement, and operational efficiency across the ICU.
The AMD will split responsibilities between direct patient care and administrative/leadership functions, serving as a key liaison between clinicians, hospital leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.
Clinical and Administrative Duties
- Provide direct critical care services in the ICU, including evaluation, diagnosis, and management of critically ill patients
- Maintain high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and evidence-based practice
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and case management
- Participate in ICU call coverage and scheduling as required
- Support the ICU medical director in overseeing daily operations of the ICU program
- Assist with clinician scheduling, staffing models, and coverage optimization
