Job Description Summary
A collegiate assistant coach serves as a leader, mentor, and strategist, driving the success of the team both on and off the field. Their duties include developing and implementing training programs, creating game strategies, and fostering skill development to enhance individual and team performance. The assistant coach is tasked with assisting in building a positive team culture, promoting sportsmanship, and resolving conflicts to maintain a cohesive and motivated group. Administrative responsibilities include assisting with the management of budgets, organizing travel, and ensuring compliance with NCAA and conference regulations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
FUNCTIONS:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coaching, Player Development, & Game Preparation
Provide position-specific coaching during practices and competitions, focusing on technical skill development, fundamentals, and execution.
Assist in developing and implementing offensive/defensive/special teams game plans, including opponent scouting and breakdown of game film.
Evaluate student-athlete performance and provide ongoing feedback for improvement.
Design and execute practice plans that align with program goals and weekly competition objectives.
Mentor student-athletes in athletic performance, leadership, accountability, and personal development both on and off the field.
Recruiting & Student-Athlete Support
Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet NCAA Division II academic and athletic standards.
Maintain recruiting territories and relationships with high school coaches, prospects, and families.
Coordinate campus visits and manage recruiting communication and databases.
Monitor academic progress and support student-athlete success through collaboration with academic services.
Educate and guide student-athletes on expectations related to academics, conduct, and eligibility.
Compliance, Operations, & Program Administration
Ensure compliance with all NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
Assist with program operations including travel coordination, equipment management, and scheduling.
Support budget tracking and purchasing processes.
Participate in departmental meetings and collaborate with athletic staff (compliance, athletic training, strength & conditioning).
Assist with camps, fundraising initiatives, and community engagement efforts.
