Assistant Field Operations Manager - Weatherization Programs

A day in this role

As the Assistant Field Operations Manager for Total Home Performance’s Weatherization Department, you split your time between coaching crews and putting tools to work. Reporting to the Weatherization Production Manager, you travel between job sites to remove roadblocks, keep production moving, and make sure every project meets THP standards and state-funded program requirements. Fluency in English and Spanish is essential—you’ll train, direct, and support teams in both languages.

This is not a desk job. You’ll jump in on insulation, air sealing, ventilation, moisture control, and health-and-safety tasks whenever the team needs a skilled set of hands, all while steering quality, schedule, and safety in the field.

What you’ll lead

• Work side-by-side with Crew Leaders and Technicians to complete weatherization and building-performance tasks while modeling best practices.
• Partner with the Weatherization Production Manager to assign crews, organize workflow, set priorities, and coordinate daily schedules across multiple projects.
• Troubleshoot on-site challenges, resolve bottlenecks, and keep crews productive and on time.
• Provide technical direction on insulation, air sealing, ventilation, moisture mitigation, and health/safety scopes aligned with program specifications.
• Conduct in-field quality checks to verify workmanship, safety, scope compliance, and conformance with THP and program requirements.
• Spot quality or performance gaps, coach crews to correct them, and reduce callbacks and failed inspections.
• Deliver hands-on training and mentoring for Crew Leaders and Technicians to reinforce correct installation methods and production expectations.
• Review work orders, images, test results, measurements, material consumption, and all required program documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Ensure teams have materials, tools, vehicles, and information needed for efficient execution.
• Track production metrics—labor hours, material usage, job progress—and drive overall field efficiency.
• Oversee corrective/punch-list work to rapid completion, with documentation and closeout verified.
• Maintain required NREL badges, certifications, and other weatherization program credentials per procedure.
• Uphold THP safety policies and OSHA requirements; correct unsafe conditions or practices immediately.
• Communicate professionally with customers and internal staff regarding schedule, progress, workmanship, and any field concerns.
• Support the Weatherization Production Manager with staffing, performance feedback, department planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you’ll bring

• Fluent in Spanish and English, with the ability to instruct, coach, and direct crews in both languages.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in weatherization, building performance, insulation, residential construction, energy efficiency, or a closely related trade (preferred).
• Deep practical knowledge of insulation, air sealing, ventilation, moisture management, and residential building science.
• Prior field leadership (Crew Lead, Lead Tech, Foreman, or similar) strongly preferred.
• Comfort working shoulder-to-shoulder with crews while also setting direction and standards.
• BPI certification and/or experience with state, federal, utility, or income-qualified weatherization programs (preferred).
• Proven ability to inspect work, diagnose issues, resolve field problems, and coach for higher performance.
• Excellent communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
