The Assistant Engineer reports directly to the Chief Engineer and Property Manager. While specific responsibilities will vary based on location, this candidate will be responsible to assist with the physical asset management of the property and will rotate on call 24/7 for maintenance emergencies with the Chief Engineer. The ability to assist with managing a staff, multi-task and be adaptive to changing responsibilities while keeping a positive attitude are crucial. Strong communication and organizational skills are also key. Membership in the Union is a requirement at this location. The position is located in Evanston, Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Work with Chief Engineer to ensure effective administration of building systems including HVAC, boiler maintenance and more.
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies according to documented procedures
• Work in coordination with Chief Engineer and Management with staff, vendors, contractors and residents to promote and sustain the safety, cleanliness and upkeep of the building including regular property walks, work orders and preventative maintenance.
• Assist Chief Engineer with the keeping of detailed records of facilities maintenance for mechanical systems, pool, and elevators as well as scheduling and managing the maintenance/janitorial staff.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in multifamily facilities
• HVAC Certification or corresponding experience
• Good customer service skills
• Proficiency in basic computer operations
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be a self-starter and able to multi-task
• Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment which may require working holidays, weekends and nights based on needs at site location and in cases of emergency
• Successful completion of the SEIU Local 1 Two-Year Apprenticeship Program

Compensation

• This position follows the CBA rate requirements.
