    Job Description Summary

This role is responsible and accountable for the daily operation of the University and MUHA Electrical Shop in the absence of the Electrical Supervisor. This position is knowledgeable with the Hospital Building, Research, Automation and Fire Alarm Systems and assists in managing all utility outages for the MUSC Enterprise, Hospital and University Facilities. The Assistant Electrical Supervisor assists with ensuring the Hospital is in compliance with Joint Commission, AAALAC and Federal and State agencies.

    Job Description

    The Assistant Electrical Supervisor reports to the Electrical Supervisor.  Under limited supervision, the Assistant Electrical Supervisor assists in the management, supervision and administration of the MUSC Enterprise, MUHA and University Facilities Electrical Systems MUSC Enterprise MUHA and University staff electricians.  This role is responsible and accountable for the daily operation of the University and MUHA Electrical Shop in the absence of the Electrical Supervisor.  This position is knowledgeable with the Hospital Building, Research, Automation and Fire Alarm Systems and assists in managing all utility outages for the MUSC Enterprise, Hospital and University Facilities. The Assistant Electrical Supervisor assists with ensuring the Hospital is in compliance with Joint Commission, AAALAC and Federal and State agencies.

    Considered Essential Personnel in a Disaster Situation.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • 25% -  Assist the Electrical Supervisor to ensure the orderly operation of the MUSC Enterprise, University and MUHA Electrical Shop during the day to day activities. Ensure all shifts are covered 24/7. Assigns daily maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks in facilities owned or operated by University, MUHA and MUSC enterprise. Monitor employee work orders and work logs. Ensure completion of work orders, assigned work, and preventive maintenance.
    • 25% -  Assist, facilitate and monitor all utility outages and contract work performed in the MUSC Enterprise, University Hospital and or grounds. Closely monitor contractors / vendors for safety and code compliance during all phases of construction or repairs and report deficiencies to Supervisor. Comprehensively maintain and utilize electrical plans or prints to complete, prepare or manage outages and repair projects.
    • 25% -  Responsible for First Call Status in after hour electrical emergencies. Respond to all after hours electrical emergencies immediately and appropriately as a first point of contact. Assess the emergency and determine the appropriate protocol to enact and contact Supervisor. Identified as essential personnel in all emergencies.
    • 10% - Ability to create electrical cost estimates. Perform limited project management.
    • 10% -  Maintain professional growth and development through seminars and workshops. Continue to stay abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
    • 5% -  Maintain an orderly and neat shop, electrical rooms, and work area to establish a safe work environment. Safely operate necessary machines, vehicles and tools as needed to complete assigned jobs.

    • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous)
    • Ability to operate winches, come-alongs, jacks, etc. (Continuous)
    • Ability to maintain dexterity in order to use hand tools, both manual and powered. (Continuous)

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education: High School Degree or Equivalent

    Work Experience: 3 years general or industrial electrical maintenance experience required
