Assistant Electrical Designer

Contract-to-Hire Opportunity
Location: Chattanooga, TN

We are seeking an Assistant Electrical Designer to support electrical design and drafting activities for a variety of engineering projects. This position will work as part of a multidisciplinary project team, assisting with electrical layouts, drawings, calculations, and construction documentation from initial design through project completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with electrical designs including power distribution, lighting, protection and controls, electrical schematics, grid layouts, and site/facility systems.

• Prepare and revise engineering drawings from sketches, redlines, markups, verbal instructions, and engineering information using CAD software.

• Support 2D and 3D drawing production, design layouts, component sizing, and basic calculations.

• Assist with CAD project setup, configurations, standards, and drawing procedures.

• Review drawings, reports, and other technical information to support project design.

• Apply applicable design codes, specifications, client standards, and project requirements.

• Incorporate project schedules, budgets, and design criteria into electrical drawings and layouts.

• Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other disciplines to resolve design and drawing issues.

• Complete design assignments within established scope, budget, and schedule requirements.

• Organize and maintain drawing revisions, plot files, and other project-related documentation.

• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with applicable policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or related field with 2+ years of related experience, OR

• Associate Degree with 3+ years of related experience, OR

• 4+ years of progressive electrical detailing/design experience.

• Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

• Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D design applications to prepare engineering drawings.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

• Basic understanding of electrical design principles, calculations, and engineering systems.

• Ability to interpret and apply engineering and design information to drawing production.

• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software and technologies.
