Are you an experienced prosecutor and leader ready to put your legal expertise to work in service of the community? Nevada County, California is seeking a highly skilled Assistant District Attorney to serve in a leadership role within the District Attorney's Office. Working closely with the District Attorney, you will provide strategic legal guidance, oversee complex criminal matters, mentor attorneys and staff, and collaborate with law enforcement, courts, and other justice-system partners throughout Nevada County. This position offers an opportunity to help lead the Office, shape prosecutorial practices, and represent the People of the State of California with sound judgment, integrity, fairness, and the highest standards of professional ethics.

Main Duties:

  • Ensure that criminal matters are prosecuted fairly, effectively, and in accordance with California law.
  • Assist with the professional development and supervision of attorneys, support staff, and investigators.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to members of the public regarding concerns involving the District Attorney's Office.
  • Coordinate Department of Justice requirements, Attorney General matters, contract management, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Supervise attorney staff and support operations, including activities associated with the Truckee satellite office.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the newly established Family Justice Center.
  • Handle and coordinate Public Records Act requests for the District Attorney's Office.
  • Assist the District Attorney with office administration, planning, policy development, and operational matters.
  • Provide legal guidance and case-management support to attorneys and staff.
  • Assist with statutory reporting and other compliance requirements.

Knowledge of:

  • Federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting criminal prosecution and the operations of a District Attorney's Office.
  • Principles and practices of criminal law and criminal procedure.
  • Legal research methods, practices, and materials.
  • Rules of court, legal precedent, policies, and procedures.
  • Trial and hearing procedures and rules of evidence.
  • Applicable provisions of the California Penal, Health and Safety, Vehicle, Corporations, Welfare and Institutions, Business and Professions, Evidence, and Family Codes.

Education and Experience Required:

  • A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an ABA, AALS, or CA State Bar-accredited law school.
  • At least five years' experience practicing in the field of criminal public law.

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Holding a valid drivers license within 30 days of being hired.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar.

Education and Experience Required

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited law school and five years of experience practicing criminal law.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid drivers license within 30 days of hire. A valid Class C drivers license must be maintained throughout employment in this class to perform the essential functions of the position.

Active membership in the California State Bar.
