Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of CLASS (Center for Learning and Academic Support Services), the Assistant Director of V-CLASS (Virtual Center for Learning and Academic Support Services) serves as a strategic leader responsible for the development, implementation, assessment, and expansion of Augusta Universitys virtual academic support services. This position provides comprehensive leadership for online tutoring, academic coaching, embedded virtual support, academic recovery initiatives, digital learning resources, and student success interventions tailored for undergraduate, graduate, professional, online, hybrid, clinical, and non-traditional learners.

The Assistant Director manages day-to-day V-CLASS operations and directly supervises professional staff, graduate assistants, peer educators, and virtual academic support personnel. Key responsibilities include leading strategic planning, program development, technology integration, assessment, and data-informed decision-making.

The role collaborates extensively across campus with faculty, academic departments, Online Learning, IT, Institutional Effectiveness, and Student Success units to integrate support services seamlessly into virtual learning environments, advancing AUs goals for enrollment growth, retention, persistence, and degree completion.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

VIRTUAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT LEADERSHIP AND STRATEGIC PLANNING:

• Provide strategic leadership for V-CLASS, Augusta Universitys comprehensive virtual academic

support initiative.

• Develop and implement short-term and long-term strategic plans supporting online, hybrid, graduate,

professional, and non-traditional student success.

• Establish vision, goals, policies, operational frameworks, and performance benchmarks for virtual

academic support services.

• Lead institutional initiatives supporting enrollment growth, retention, persistence, credit momentum,

and degree completion.

• Manage budgets, staffing plans, resource allocation, and long-range program sustainability.
• Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Enrollment & Student Affairs, Online Learning, and academic

colleges to advance virtual student success initiatives.

FACULTY PARTNERSHIPS AND INSTITUTIONAL COLLABORATION:

• Collaborate with faculty to embed virtual tutors, academic coaches, and support resources into online and high-risk courses.
• Partner with academic colleges and student success units to develop targeted interventions.
• Serve on university committees, task forces, and strategic initiatives supporting student success, online learning, and academic achievement.

DATA ANALYTICS, ASSESSMENT, AND INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

• Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to utilization, retention, persistence, DFW reduction, registration behaviors, and student engagement.
• Utilize Jag360, Banner, Slate, Tableau, Crystal Reports, D2L, and other systems to assess program effectiveness.
• Prepare executive reports, dashboards, annual assessments, and strategic recommendations.
• Lead assessment efforts supporting accreditation, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
• Utilize predictive analytics and intervention data to inform decision-making and resource allocation.

STAFF SUPERVISION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

• Recruit, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional staff, graduate assistants, virtual tutors, peer educators, and academic coaches.
• Develop onboarding programs, certification pathways, and continuing education opportunities for virtual support personnel.
• Monitor performance metrics and service quality standards.
• Create leadership development opportunities for peer educators and graduate assistants.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and best practices.

TEACHING, ACADEMIC RECOVERY, AND STUDENT SUCCESS PROGRAMMING:

• Teach CLAS 1301, ASII 1101, ASII 1201, and INQR 1000 courses as assigned.
• Serve as the primary administrator and coordinator for the S.T.R.I.D.E. Summer Student Success

Bootcamp programs.

• Develop curriculum, learning outcomes, assessments, and instructional materials supporting

academic recovery, transition, persistence, and student success.

• Facilitate workshops, webinars, and academic success programming focused on metacognition, study strategies, time management, test preparation, and academic resilience.
• Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to implement proactive student success interventions and academic recovery pathways.

VIRTUAL LEARNING SUPPORT OPERATIONS AND TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT:

• Direct daily operations of V-CLASS including virtual tutoring, academic coaching, embedded support,

and online student engagement initiatives.

• Oversee virtual service delivery platforms including D2L, Jag360, Microsoft Teams, WC Online, and

other emerging technologies.

• Develop and maintain scheduling systems, service workflows, operational procedures, and quality

assurance standards.

• Coordinate expansion of virtual services to meet the needs of online, hybrid, graduate, and

professional students.

• Ensure operational effectiveness, service accessibility, and continuous improvement of virtual

support programs.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education, Education, Counseling, or a related field. Minimum of two (2) years experience in higher education, academic support services, student success, academic advising, teaching, online learning, instructional design, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree with three (3) years of experience in academic support services, student success, online learning, academic coaching, tutoring, academic advising, instructional design, or a related higher education field. Supervisory experience; experience teaching college-level courses such as first-year experience, academic recovery, or student success courses; experience developing and managing virtual learning initiatives; experience utilizing learning management systems, student success technologies, and data analytics platforms; and demonstrated success in program development, assessment, faculty collaboration, and retention-focused initiatives within a college or university setting.

• 5 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, academic support services, student success, academic advising,

teaching, online learning, instructional design, or a related field.

• 2 years of supervisory experience, including responsibility for staff development, performance management, and program oversight.
• Demonstrated experience utilizing student success technologies, learning management systems, data analytics, and assessment practices to

support student retention, persistence, and academic achievement.

• Experience teaching college-level courses and developing student success programming.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

• Deep understanding of higher education landscapes, student development theory, retention and persistence strategies, and academic support services.
• Comprehensive grasp of online learning best practices, instructional design frameworks, and virtual engagement methodologies.
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), student success technologies, and various data reporting platforms.

SKILLS

• Analyzing complex data, generating reports, and assessing program/initiative effectiveness.
• Strategic planning, formal project management, and overseeing large-scale program operations.
• Designing, implementing, and rolling out innovative student success programs from the ground up.
• Actively managing, mentoring, and leading a team or staff.
• Working knowledge of computer software systems like MS Office, Banner, Slate, Tableau, Othot, WC Online, Crystal Reports, other student information systems

ABILITIES

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
