The Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives serves as a results-driven leader responsible for supporting and expanding strategic partnerships, driving recruitment and enrollment growth, and supervising operational and customer service functions within the department. This role serves as a key relationship manager for current and prospective partners while supporting sales, partnership development, student engagement, and departmental performance initiatives.

This position requires a highly motivated professional with strong sales instincts, leadership ability, relationship management skills, and operational oversight experience. The Assistant Director must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while balancing strategic planning, team supervision, customer service excellence, and data-driven decision-making.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with strategic partners, prospective partners, students, and university stakeholders.
  • Supports recruitment, enrollment growth, and partnership expansion initiatives through proactive outreach, sales strategy execution, and relationship cultivation.
  • Assists in identifying, developing, and pursuing new partnership opportunities aligned with university strategic goals.
  • Serves as a primary contact for assigned strategic partnerships and facilitates communication between partners and university departments.
  • Assists with partnership contract renewals, engagement strategies, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Supports the development and implementation of marketing, recruitment, and sales plans to increase enrollment and partner engagement.
  • Represents the university at meetings, events, presentations, conferences, and partner visits as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records and tracking for partnerships, communications, contracts, student engagement, and institutional effectiveness reporting.
  • Supports university-wide initiatives related to church relations, workforce partnerships, and strategic growth opportunities.

Leadership & Supervision

  • Provides day-to-day supervision, training, and support for assigned staff or departmental support personnel.
  • Assists in monitoring departmental workflows, customer service standards, and operational efficiency.
  • Helps foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, innovation, and high-performing customer service.
  • Supports departmental leadership in project management, process improvement, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Assists with coordinating departmental communications, priorities, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Monitors and reports on key performance indicators related to partnerships, recruitment, and retention.
  • Assists with departmental reporting, invoices, budget tracking, check requests, and administrative processes.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education, business development, sales, account management, partnership management, recruitment, or related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Professional demeanor and presentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external organizations.
  • Strong technology and computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/database systems.
  • Ability to learn new technology platforms quickly and conduct accurate research and reporting.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel up to 30% annually.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Experience in higher education partnerships, workforce development, or enrollment management.

  • Experience with sales management, business development, or account management.

  • Technology skills (user or admin level) with platforms such as:

  • Power BI

  • Weave

  • Coursera

  • Softdocs/Etrieve

  • Canvas

  • Spanish fluency preferred.
