The Office of Medical Education (OME) is the centralized unit committed to developing, delivering, and managing curriculum for undergraduate medical education. The OME collaborates closely with leadership, faculty, students, and curricular committees to ensure a high-quality education for GW's medical students.

The Assistant Director oversees the coordination of course and curriculum support for the MD Program and directly supervises the curriculum support staff. This generally includes administrative policies, procedures, timekeeping, and personnel oversight. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day administrative operations, implementing processes to enhance unit efficiency, and maintaining institutional policies and procedures. Additionally, the Assistant Director provides strategic recommendations for the unit budget and oversee key administrative functions, including student schedule management, and general programmatic assistance.

Duties Include:

Operational & Curricular Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operational, administrative, and logistical needs required to manage the MD Program curriculum and OME unit planning.
  • Partner with the MD program OME leadership team to manage operational, curricular, and academic affairs supporting decanal leadership, faculty, and students.
  • Facilitate training for OME staff and faculty on educational technology and systems necessary to operationalize the MD curriculum.
  • Collaborate with GW IT, MD program operations, and other GW administrators to improve systems and enhance the medical degree program.
  • Implement best practices in curriculum management including maintenance of the curriculum database, ensuring alignment of course learning objectives and activities with program goals, and contribute to ongoing course development efforts alongside program leadership.

Team Leadership & Personnel Management

  • Directly supervise and mentor OME staff, serving as a primary leadership resource for the entire OME team.
  • Evaluate staff performance in accordance with university policy, including conducting regular performance reviews and establishing clear professional development plans.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for OME staff and stakeholders to resolve ongoing operational and administrative issues.

Direct Course Support

  • Provide direct administrative and management support for assigned courses.
  • Maintain learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard) and oversee the accurate tracking of OME student records, including grades, deliverables, attendance, and exceptional circumstances.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in curriculum administration, development, and implementation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a management role or demonstrated management capacity preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and an approach based on quality improvement.
  • Fluency with educational technology and computer systems is essential; candidates must have a working knowledge of applications typical to academic and office environments.
  • Strong written, verbal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Desire to work as an operational leader in a primarily in-person operational environment.

Hiring Range $76,921.10 - $111,604.15 GW Staff Approach to Pay
