Job Goal:
The Assistant Director of Student Services provides leadership and support for districtwide systems, programs, and practices that address the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and individual needs of students. In collaboration with others, the Assistant Director works to remove barriers to learning, strengthen inclusive and equitable educational opportunities, and ensure that all students receive the support necessary to learn, grow, and succeed.
Qualifications:
WI DPI Director of Special Education and Pupil Services License (80)
Minimum of three years of successful experience as a special education teacher, school psychologist, or related field.
Preferred: three years of experience in administration of student services personnel and programs at a district level
Commitment to the Pulaski Board of Education and Education Philosophy

Essential Job Functions:
Districtwide Student Support Systems and RtI/MTSS
Works with the director and team in developing and implementing the philosophy of student services into the total school program.
Works with the director and team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of student services programs (special education, school counseling, psychological, health, and social casework services, and other related programs and services)
Works collaboratively as a member of the teaching and learning team.
Utilizes instructional practices that promote supportive learning environments and build social and emotional skills.
Directs SEL Standards and evidence-based approaches for SEL in the classroom. and uses best practices in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support to meet students' social and emotional needs.
Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of districtwide systems of student support, including academic, behavioral, social-emotional, mental health, and attendance-related supports.
Collaborates with building and district leaders to ensure consistent implementation of RtI and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and effective problem-solving processes across schools.
Uses student outcome, program, and implementation data to identify needs, evaluate effectiveness, and guide continuous improvement of Student Services programs and supports.
Utilizes adult learning styles and best practices for coaching and providing feedback to build adult competencies.
Excellent time manager; ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Uses data to inform decision-making about the selection, implementation, or ongoing assessment of the programs and strategies used related to SEL.
Helps serve as a consultant to learning services, instructional technology, and building-level committees at the elementary levels.
Assists with manifestation determination and expulsion processes.
Represents the Student Services Department at community events as scheduled with the Director of Student Services.
Assists in facilitating, implementing, and evaluating the district process of providing interventions for students.
Serves as a resource person to building administrators and School Improvement Teams.
Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
Specific Duties-Special Education Leadership
Completes and presents the Seclusion and Restraint report to the school board one time per year.
Facilitates or chairs IEP and other planning meetings, and serves as a district Local Education Agency representative as needed.
Assists in implementing all regulations and policies required for special education programs.*
Directs case study services for students, including the identification, diagnosis, follow-up, and referral of students with problems related to attendance, mental health, or exceptional educational needs
Facilitates the provision of recommended appropriate special services for groups of exceptional education students and their parents and oversees the placement of individual students with special needs in those educational situations best suited to their requirements
Implements all regulations and policies required for special education programs
Coordinates various district student screening processes
Specific Duties-District Programs and Services
Provides leadership and oversight for the district''s English Learner program and supports compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
Coordinates the Title VI Native American Education Grant and related programming in collaboration with appropriate staff and community partners.
Provides leadership and oversight for assigned alternative education and placement programs, including alternative education programming, school-to-work/School HOPP, adapted physical education, early childhood/4K inclusion, and other specialized programs as assigned.
Collaborates with district and building leaders to evaluate specialized programs and recommend changes based on student needs, outcomes, enrollment, and available resources.
Coordinates and directs DLM Assessment in collaboration with the District Assessment Coordinator (DAC)
Coordinates and directs Access ELL Assessment in collaboration with the District Assessment Coordinator (DAC)
Specific Duties-Personnel Leadership, Supervision, and Professional Learning
Directly supervises and evaluates assigned Student Services personnel in accordance with district evaluation processes.
Provides leadership, coaching, feedback, and professional development to assigned Student Services and special education personnel.
Collaborates with building administrators in the supervision, evaluation, and support of building-based Student Services and special education personnel.
Assists in determining staffing needs, assignments, caseloads, and allocation of Student Services and special education personnel.
Participates in recruitment, selection, onboarding, retention, and professional development of Student Services and special education staff.
Promotes consistent expectations, practices, and professional standards across district Student Services personnel.
Specific Duties - Collaboration & Student Support
Provides districtwide leadership and coordination for Pupil Services programs and personnel, including school counseling, school psychology, school social work, and school nursing services, as assigned.
Supports the development and implementation of districtwide practices related to student mental health, social-emotional learning, behavior, attendance, and student well-being.
Collaborates with building administrators and Student Services staff to identify student needs and ensure appropriate interventions, services, and supports are provided.
Provides leadership and consultation regarding complex student situations, including behavioral, mental health, attendance, placement, and other barriers to student success.
Coordinates and supports district crisis response and student safety procedures in collaboration with the Director of Student Services and building administrators.
Conducts or provides professional development learning, workshops, training, and development programs for members of the department and teachers assigned by the District Administrator.
