Position Information

Campus Title Assistant Director of Student Accounts Department Student Accounts Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Accounts plays a vital role on the Student Accounts team. The successful candidate must be a self-motivated, team-oriented individual. Responsibilities include but are not limited to daily reconciliation of cash received; obtaining and reconciling federal student aid and private loan funds; issuing student refunds; working with other College departments, students and families to resolve financial aid disbursement and billing concerns.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of one to three years experience in a high volume customer service or a financial management environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and Communication skills
  • Experience interpreting and explaining complex policies and processes to customers in sometimes stressful situations
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to assist customers of diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Candidates for this position must be eligible to work in the United States. VISA sponsorship is not offered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or related field
  • Administrative experience in higher education
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner or other related software
  • Familiarity with State and Federal Financial Aid regulations
  • Experience with large volume billing and collections.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Percentage Of Time 25% Job Duty/ Responsibility

Management of Federal Student Aid Funds

  • Draw down and distribute federal student loan, PELL Grant, SEOG and TEACH Grant funds
  • Refund or return funds as appropriate
  • Maintain accurately reconciled fund accounts
  • Perform return calculations for withdrawn students

Percentage Of Time 25% Job Duty/ Responsibility

Cash Receipt Reconciliation

  • Reconcile daily cash received to Student Information System reports
  • Prepare bank deposit
  • Make correcting entries as needed
  • Monitor bank account, record receipts to Student Information System as required

Percentage Of Time 15% Job Duty/ Responsibility

Manage Student Refund Process

  • Issue refunds to students within mandated time frames
  • Coordinate transfer of electronic refund files
  • Monitor refund reports to ensure accuracy
  • Monitor outstanding check list and follow up on uncashed refund checks

Percentage Of Time 15% Job Duty/ Responsibility

Customer Service

  • Assist students and families in understanding the financial responsibility of attending SUNY Geneseo
  • Present to students and parents at New Student Orientation
  • Work with delinquent payers, creating payment plans as needed

Percentage Of Time 10% Job Duty/ Responsibility

Supervision

  • Promote team-oriented work environment
  • Supervision and evaluation of Office Assistants (classified staff)
  • Provide training as needed
  • Assume responsibility for the Student Accounts operation in the absence of the Director

  • Manages billing for SUNY Cross Registered students
  • Manages international student payments
  • Assists Director with student billing
  • Assists Director with certification and management of state aid programs
  • Assists with management & processing of veterans benefits
