    Responsibilities:

    Job Summary: The Laboratory Director directs and oversees all aspects of the laboratory, including personnel, operations, budgeting, and compliance with regulatory agencies. The Laboratory Director maintains a cooperative working relationship with various hospital & organization personnel and physicians to resolve problems, enhance smooth delivery of services and plan for the future of the hospital and corporation.

    • Develops long- and short-range goals and objectives, working with supervisory staff, Pathologists, and Hospital Administration. Oversees follow through on plan to meet the established goals.
    • Plans and administers through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of diagnostic laboratory procedures in accordance with all hospital, state, federal, and agency standards; Ensures all department records, specimens, and files are properly maintained.
    • Develops capital expenses and operating budget; implements appropriate methods to monitor compliance of expenditures and resolve variance expenditures related to salaries, equipment, supplies; ensures inventory control.
    • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field through continuing education. Presents latest information and demonstrates knowledge by making suggestions for laboratory operations.
    • Demonstrates competency in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and hiring staff to meet the needs of the specific patient population.
    • Provides leadership and development opportunities and guidance to the staff preparing them for continuous improvement or growth and adaptation to change.
    • Shall demonstrate leadership and commitment with respect to the quality management system by:

    (a) Oversees development and implementation of various quality control programs within laboratory, working

    in compliance with regulations from regulatory agencies, CAP, COLA, AABB, SC DHEC, and DNV.

    (b) Review quality control, proficiency results, patient results, and method comparisons; identify and correct

    performance problems in these areas.

    (c) Prepares or directs preparation of periodic and special analysis and reports required for management.

    (d) Promoting the use of the process approach and risk-based thinking.

    (e) Engaging, directing, and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of the quality management

    system requirements.

    • Adheres to hospital policies associated with HR including but not limited to PEP, FMLA, ADA guidelines, EAP, evaluations, etc. When necessary, disciplines and discharges personnel.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of five years of job-related experience
    • Minimum of five years' experience in a leadership or management position
    • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, team building ability, organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently.

    Education:

    • Certification by recognized national certifying agency or 10 years of job-related experience in lieu of certification.
    • Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Science or in appropriate biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited school.
